But if I use the 9xxx to separate the one for me and don't check the box for contribution, then in the online database here both Ken Jones become the same? Hm...... this sounds as if I might need to do a little research to hopefully find out his by. Don't like fake years.....

But thanks to all for so much help!

Well, for my own database it might be without a trouble, but providing this special one always is declined - altough there is no third part database. The problem is a guy named "Ken Jones", a second composer for "Das Bittere und das Süße: Juwelen der Filmgeschichte" (4-042564-153163) but he is different from the "Ken Jones" who did Visual Effects for e. g. "3 Engel für Charlie", "2 Fast 2 Furious" and countless other US-Movies.

As none of them has a birthyear to find, I simply put a (II) behind the one of "Das Bittere....", a guy who is not even credited in the imdb, and it's still "An invalid source, such as a third party database, was listed in the contribution notes. Use of a third party database is not allowed per the contribution rules."

So it seems that this is partially an automatic process, causing declination if the phrase imdb is anyhwhere to find? Because if really somebody would read the text of the contribution, something else wouldn't happen.... And for sure there is one voter, always saying no "Ken Jones (II) is not valid per rules (you can't gave him a "(II)" behind the name to separate him from the other "Ken Jones")"

Hm, in my contribution I asked for explanation before declination as I can't find it in the rules and so I don't know how to make it better.

Not to mention that imdb has more than 20 different Ken Jones, most of them w/o by - so if there is no definition so far how to separata birthyears without birthyears we might need to create a new rule....

Maybe I am only not smart enough to find it but it seems that I can't create a field/panel for a report with the value of the "count as" column :-(

This has a simple reason (which might make my work/control/correction much easier):
I got profiler - and I got the whole collection in Excel.

But there is a difference in the number of discs which shouldn't be....
Well, it took me more than a week to compare both lists step by step and entry by entry. This way I found here and there a little mistake but the difference between both lists is still there and much too big. Controlling manually is a hard work which needs a lot of conentration and as the difference between the number of discs still is present, I'd appreciate a report very much with just two colums: "Title" + "count as" - then making this a pdf-file, copying the data from there to Excel and comparing the report with my Excel-List.... I don't see other chance to get the job done.

So two possibilities: EIther the "count as" is hidden anywhere "hidden" to get it into a report or anyone has another idea how I could get this research and correction done....

Many thanks for all support!

Recognized another unlinkely "misfunction" I don't understand (and maybe this has to do with sorting?):

I am at the top of the list and want to go down to a movie.... usually I do this by entering the first few letters. So it is sorted alphabetically and - for example - I type "geis" (as I want to reach a movie like "Geisterhaus" or "Geistervilla") - but why does it happen that it doesn't stop at one of these movies (coming first on the way down) but nearly at the end in a child profile for "Der Geist und die Dunkelheit"

I could understand/accept that if I would be on a movie beginning with a letter above "G" (then the program would go down to the next one starting with "geist"). But why does it not stop at the first correct entry? *confused*

I recognize it again and again and I don't like it: If you sort your collection alphabetical, it only works if the titles enclude "usual" letters, but as soon as there is any accent (é, à, ô) ot the "special" german (and at least also finish and also hungarian) letters like Ä, ö, ü  (if you can't see them: those are the letters with the two dots above) & "ß" (in german called "the sharp s"), they are always at the end except I manually modify the sort title.

In my opinion it would be much easier to integrate all these "special" letters into the program to avoid all these manual changes. That means that "é" is automatically sorted like "e" and "ä" (the a with dots above) like "ae" and "ß" like "ss"

What do you think about this idea? Implementing it once in the profiler, it would avoid countless manual modification of the sort titles.

@rdodolak: You are right in all cases! The profile so far has the front w/o rating as front and back (possibly a place holder) and I contributed scans of front (with rating) and back

This is about the movie "... und morgen fahrt ihr zur Hölle" (Juwelen der Filmgeschichte)

Well, in this case front and back cover of the existing profile are the front w/o rating. If there is a complete looking profile and only the scans are missing, I keep a DVD sealed as long as possible until I watch it, and scanning the outside always has the logo according to law, only turning around the "Wendecover" shows the version w/o logo.

Don't know if there should be rules.... like we have for "cover of first release" and the later ones aren't allowed so far (if they are modified in any way).

Well, a while ago "someone" (don't remember who it was) checked my database and found out that I have a load of birth years in my DB which are not part of invelos. Well, for some it is correct for me (a long story to explain) but most of them came up with any update.

Now the problem is (I remember that I have read this anywhere a while ago but couldn't find it anymore) that the update doesn't work correctly to change them and it would be (too!) much work to check and modify manually!

E. g. I got a "John Smith (1954)" in my database. The update tells me that this actor is wrong and shows me the correct "John Smith" (w/o birtyear). But alltough I accept the update, persons WITH by aren't replaced by persons W/O by! Only if there would a replacement - for this example - by a "John Smith (1945)" then it works. So if this feature could be implemented in the updates, it would avoid a lot of work and it would clean countless databases. And additionally it would offer me a check if there is any need to ask for this and that birthyear become part of the database for separation of different people!

I would love to push that idea, especially in case of the "forced" Subs.

For me sometimes it is horrible: Watching an US-Movie with german sound. But sometimes in the original version they were speaking in foreign languages (like in "French Connection"), but all was synchronized for german audio.

But as they had to make the original foreign parts "understandable", there is german audio with english subtitles. They are not even "forced", they are burnt into the movie. And sometimes this totally sucks!

I remember buying two DVDs a couple of years ago, both with automatic subtitles (nobody knows why!). And I couldn't find any way to switch them off! As usually you can't give back an allready opened DVD, I was lucky that the shop had exactly the same player I had and the seller also wasn't able to get the subs off. So at least I got my money back for those horrible releases!

This sounds very much like the "playlist"-idea I posted a while ago. I only would "enhance" the sequel/prequel stuff a little bit.... In a time where the 4th part of the "Marvel Cinematic Universe" seems to start soon, we allready have three finished chapters, but in that case the sequel-idea wouldn't work as most times there are several other movies between "Part 1" and "Part 2" (e. g. for Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America and so on).

There were coming up ideas like "fake box sets" (creating one virtual box set for each part of the MCU), but for me this is not acceptable, especially when some of the movies are part of a REAL box (in my collection Iron Man 1 + 2), as this would cause a lot of confusion in my collection.

But your idea is so enjoyable, any feature to connect e. g. "Glass" with "Unbreakable" and all the other movies which don't have similar titles or numbers in them. "Bring together what belongs together"....

This is two ideas in one post! A couple of years ago I came up with the idea to sum up all the cast counts which was done quite fast and made me happy. So now I'd appreciate the same for the crew-members. It is much easier than counting them manually ;-)

The other thing - if even possible - might be much more complicated!

I know so far there are two sections for persons in the database: One for cast and one for crew!

But is there any chance to merge/combine them? It's fact that there are a load of actors who also did a job as director, sometimes as writer or as (executive) producer. But if you click on the actor you don't see anything of his crew-activity. So if you want to know if he/she even did any kind of a crew-job, you have to search the crew-section separately.

For me it would make researches so much easier, if there is any chance to combine/merge the sections of cast and crew of the database. And then one doubleclick would say for example:

Quentin Tarantino

Actor in
From Dusk Til Dawn
The Hateful 8
...

Director of
One Upon A Time in Hollywood
Inglorious Basterds
...

Writer for
Kill Bill
Curdled
...

Editor for
Reservoir dogs...

and so on.

Tarantino did so many different things, and if you think he is the only one, just check out William Shatner or Ben Affleck.

Imo the combination of bose parts of the DB would show so much more of the versatily of some of the guys.

What would you think about this? Or is there allready any feature I only don't know?

I recognized it these days that - at least in theory - so many cast & crew in the profiles would need their name with "credited as".
Why? Have you ever recognized that so many openening sequence or end titles use only capital letters or sometimes only small letters?
For "common" names it might be easy to handle the correct format, but what about all these with "van", "Mc", "de" before the name? Especialy for "van" and "de" you're never able to find out if they should be written with a capital letter at the beginning or a small one. But changing all those countless profiles to the mentioned "credited as"-versions could become the job of a lifetime.......

Hollywood-Gold-Series
for me it's defintely this version!
If you would use "Hollywood - Gold - Series" then you should set spaces between ALL of the letters (that's what they've done I presume) but then it would look wired: "H o l l y w o o d - G o l d - S e r i e s"
Just what I see as a Layouter and Designer ;-)

Well, sometimes it's a little bit confusing. What's up if there is only one more person to myself owning the DVD I am contributing? Or at least only one person says yes or no?

I have to ask this in cases where the decision of this one person is definitely wrong and I can't do anything against if this one says "no" to my contribution!

There is actually one case! The profile in the database has the front cover twice - without rating! But as the movie has a so called "Wendecover" (outside/visible with rating, if you turn around it's without), the side WITH rating would be correct! I just read the comment for the "No", that the "front cover without rating is correct", but it isn't! If you would buy the sealed DVD, it's always with rating, only if you take out the inlay and turn it around it's without.

Same thing - I mention this a while ago - is the media company! Well, most of the people who care about the data imo mostly care about cast & crew. I am very much on studios these days, too, especially if there are countless DVDs from the "Pidax"- or "Filmjuwelen"-Series. Imo it's confusing to have e. g. 20 discs of one of these series but then 3 or more different spellings of their media companies. I'd appreciated maybe a discussion but then a solution to solve this forever!

In the past we had this stuff with "twentieth century fox" and "20th century fox". As I don't know if it is technically possible: Wouldn't it be an idea to discuss the correct spelling for some studios/media companies and then correct all of them (with any tool?) here on the server with one click? I love clean data, and you know that it is always work to change ALIVE & AL!VE to "AL!VE AG" ;-) And that's not the only one popping up differently with nearly every profile......

Same problem here! At least during the last week half of the time the site cannot be found. But only the invelos site like for DJ Doena.

Sometimes it's only for minutes, but sometimes half of the day not available

I am one of those people that worships contributors. Many thanks for your efforts!!

I've been educated that it is always giving and taking.... so only taking could never be my thing....
And so it was very horrible to handle those complications which made it impossible to give....

Is there some reason you can't enjoy your profiles locally?  Why is it so important to contribute them?  Enjoy your profiles locally, backup your local database in the event you ever need to restore it and move on.  How's that for a reaction?

It's my mentality of giving back something! There are hundreds of profiles I didn't need to do anything for as someone else did the whole work. And for a quite huge collection I am thankful for all their contributions.

But: Finally today it worked! Could contribute the rest of Gunsmoke!

Well, it's quite difficult to contribute the work of hours when nobody reacts!
I could call it disappointing or whatever, but support would be highly appreciated!
If you have read the whole post: The same happened half a year ago and suddenly the problems disappeared. But now it doesn't! Is there nobody out there with the technical know how to solve such issues? The last one I tried to contribute today for the at least 20th time made me stop - at least until someone can confirm that those issues don't happen anymore.
I got bad days these days, and with the omnipresent silence I feel like contributions aren't interesting anymore or work of us - the community - and especially me are not needed anymore?
What happened to invelos? In the past if there were any issues it didn't take long until they were solved. But now? Not even any reaction....

The problem is back! :-(
Did a huge load of cintributions during the last days and weeks. Maybe the problem is based by the same reason the site was offline sometimes yesterday and today?
I try to contribute the next season of german "Gunsmoke"-Seasons. Parent profile and two children worked without any problem, but trying one of the 4 other children I am off again as soon as I click the "Submit"-button.
Sorry if I sound a little bit stressed but spending time for cast & crew of at least 30 Episodes every day and then being blocked by such problems is not my way to enjoy.....
