Discovered on my Flags of Our Fathers (upc 097361178240), There is no Scene Menu in the DVD Main Menu, but there is scene access embedded in DVD for a total of 20 chapter stops.

The feature list in IVS pro filer lists this as Scene Access ( Not Scene Menu ).,
according to Rules :
Scene Selection Menu option allowing access to individual chapters or scenes.

There are times when a DVD does not give you an item (i.e hidden feature or menu item) within the Menu to choose from,
but upon inspection you could use that hidden feature as an Easter Egg. ,
Would this scene access be an Ester Egg or Scene Access .. ?????????

Read the Rules, terry they define what Scene Acess is. If it doesn't match upo then it is not a Feature, nor is it an Easter Egg.

"Scene Selection  Menu option allowing access to individual chapters or scenes."

Why are you always trying to get something to fit YOUR poarameters, Terry. I can count on you for this on a regular basis.

I posted what the rules say in my opening post above.., What I am trying to do is how to contribute chapter stops that a DVD contains., The Chapter stops are technically Scene selections., But since the Menu doesn't list the names of each scene as other DVD's do, I am looking for a logical way to please you all.
I don't know about your base of titles you see on a daily basis, but is this something new that the studios are going to do in the future?,  besides taking the menu paper insert out of all DVD's these days., ?

Most of us sitting on couch will chapter forward till you get to the scene you want. There are times when it is a bit of hassle to go back to an animated menu screen that gives us 10 seconds of animation in order to find the menu in order to find  the scene menu ( which is missing), in order to go thru all the pages of chapters to figure out approximately where you want to land your movie at.

I.E. So If menu doesn't list audio at 5.1 and the audio is 5.1 , since 5.1  isn't listed it can't be used in the Invelos Program??
That's what you are saying here.

IF the Chapter Stops are not addressable via Menu, thenn they are NOT scene access, how hard is that.

They also NOT an Easter Egg.

Audio has nothing to do with Scene Access, Terry. I get very weary of your continually trying this stunt with something or other on a regular basis. I happen to be working on a TV Series and guess what it uses Chapter Stops, NOT scene access. I suppose conceivably one might consider it an Other Feature but that is a call I will not make on my own and if you try I will vote against it. But Other Feature is the ONLY possibility, raed the Rules regarding Easter Eggs, there is NOTHING hidden about chapter stops.

It is also nothing new, Terry. I costs money to setup Menus with Scene Access, Chapter Stops are much easier to do, They have been doing this since Day ONE.

this forum is addressed as Contribution Discussion , not much of a discussion so far., where are the others on this?  Can no one see a discussion here for pros and cons.?

( You know I once and still do, own a 1986 CD of Andrew Lloyd Webbers Phantom of the Opera, the Original London cast. ,and this two disc CD had a grand running time of 100 min and 30 odd seconds., Disc one was 54 min and Disc 2 was 46 minutes., Both these discs had no chapter stops encoded and it was a pain in the car and home stereo to find that one song you wanted by scanning thru them all.

well others Here will get the impression That with  FOOF you have to scan forward as well as there are No Scene or Chapter stops.

You can get as mad as ytou want, Terry. The rules do not include Chapter Stops they DEFINE what scene selection is. From that point of view there is no more discussion. the Rules also define what an Easter Egg is and it doiesn't fit there either, again end of subject. So...there is one alternative Other Feature, there is No Pro and No Con. And if the others want to weigh in and say its OK, fine but I won't do it on my own. Undfortunately as I have noted you tend to ignore the Rules all to often and you get into these kind of areas at least once a month, and YOU will try and make the determination yourself and if you don't get the answer you want you fight about it.

I agree with Skip on this one, It's not Scene Access, and it not a Easter Egg.

I also don't think it should be under Other Features.

An Easter Egg is defined like this:

Quote:
Easter Eggs are extra features hidden on the disc and not accessible through an obvious menu option.

If the menu for Scene Access is not available, but I still get Scene Access by simply pressing the relevant buttons on the remote, I'd say that Feature was hidden

Pretty much every commercially produced DVD these days have chapter marks encoded in them that allow you to go forward or backward in the program. What is defined in the Rules is the ability to access those chapters from a menu or series of menus, not while watching the program itself.

I have yet to see a legit DVD that is not chapter encoded, i.e. has the main feature encoded as one 90+ minutes chapter.

If I'd ever come across one of these, I'd return or resell it in a heartbeat, as it's simply a VHS tape put on a DVD.

With regards to the question: if the menu doesn't exist (i.e. a selectable scene access option), the embedded us of the skip key on your remote does not qualify for a "Scene Access" entry in the profile. It's not the same as a menu operated scene access, it's not even close.

It's also not a valid "other feature" entry, because the chapter index is not a feature specific to the DVD at hand. It's a must, every data stored on a DVD has a starting and end point. If there's chapters in it or not isn't notable as a feature.

And it certainly isn't an "Easter Egg", as these refer to additional chapters of data stored on the DVD not visible like the documented contents and not easily accessible through the menu. The chapter index of the main feature is part of the documented main feature content of the DVD, it's not hidden.

Then you should stay away from David Lynch films. He doesn't like chapter stops, so they don't get put on the DVDs he is involved with (Mulholland Dr, Eraserhead)

I have to agree with the others.... not Scene Access... Not Easter Egg. And I also agree with LDH... Don't belong in other features either.

I would have to agree - my feeling is that if you have to note it then note it under "Other" in the features but I would not do anything. I would expect a DVD to have this kind of access and would note it only if it were not available like for the Phantom disc mentioned earlier in the thread.
