How many of you keep a printed copy of your database? |

| | Posted: | | | | I wish I could use mobile but it won't install on my PDA. Yes I do print out my collection. I actually have 2 listings in one 2" notebook. I use a coffee table type report with 4 DVDs per page, sorted by collection number which means I only have to print new pages as I add DVDs as this report is in color. The other list is a alphabetical listing using the simple Invelos report format. I print this one on my laser printer as it is cheaper to print out this report on. AS far as storage I am in the process of making a wall unit just for my DVDs. The picture below is just the first 2 units, since this picture I have added 3 more rows.  |

| | Posted: | | | | I've thought about it (at one per page so it doesn't need a whole reprint every time I get a new title!) but it's a awful lot of paper and starting from scratch with over 1000 titles it would take some time too! I do keep backups of my database for insurance purposes (work PC, home PC, USB stick) as well as taking semi-regular photos of the collection (stored locally and online) in case the worst happens and I the insurance company doesn't believe me! Now that I have a new iPAQ and have just purchased mobile profiler (the iPAQ was a birthday present requested because my old iPAQ couldn't run the software) there seems even less of a need... but I may start doing 10 at a time on my works colour laser and building it up  but then the profiles are updated so regularly I doubt I'd ever reach the end! | | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

I have several DVD jukeboxes, I have a display book for each DVD jukebox, I print 5 per page including the loction and slot info.
When each jukebox is full I add an alphabetical index page at the back for quick reference.

Much easier and faster than using Sonys crappy explorer program.

After looking at some of these I can confidently go to sleep tonight knowing that when I wake I will be normal. I started like many just a few months ago with a collection of about 40 titles, printed wonderfull catalogues. Unfortunatly at 2 new DVD's a day to the collection this soon became impossible.
I have a large LCD display for a TV hooked up to cable as well as a PC - now I just use DVD Profiller on the screen, works great!
Big question though for all of you useing PDA's - will the software run on a motorola Q? |

| | Posted: | | | | I'm now just over 1400 titles, so I had to stop printing the whole listing out a long time ago.
But I still do keep a full listing on paper and don't have to print a ton of pages each time it is updated. The report I like is one which lists 30 to a page. In my report definitions, I have about 30 variations of the same report. The only difference between each is the page header which consists of a portion of the alphabet. Using tag sets that correspond to these same report variations, I've limited each tag to between 30-90 titles which equates to 1 to 3 pages per print run.
It took a long time to set it all up, but now that its done its pretty easy to work with. Depending on what I've bought I usually don't have to print more than 3 pages or so and then just swap out the new pages for the same set I kep in a small binder.
Finally if I end up with over 90 titles in a tag/report I split that into two new tags (creating two reports from the one as well) and do a one-time change to the titles that were affected by the split.
