Can we please not have this conversation again?  Nothing in the rules say people have to wait so they are not going to wait.  If you don't want to use the feature, fine, don't use it.  But understand, people are going to vote 'no'.  Just let the 'no' votes stand and let the screeners decide.

I don't give a crap if they want to use it or not.  It isn't fully functional, so I should not be penalized by No votes on profiles when the voters don't follow the damn rules.  YOU are a such a stickler for following the rules, why aren't you backing us up here?

Because the rules don't have an out based on your belief that it is not 'fully functional.  The rule simply says, "Use the "As Credited" field where the person's name differs from the credited name."  There is nothing in the rules requiring a standard.  Because of that, if you don't use the feature, people can vote 'no'.

As I have said, quite a few times, I am on your side and think we should wait for a standard.  Unfortunately, the rules are not.

Well, then, if you agree that we should wait, why aren't you being more pro-active in getting Ken to turn off the feature until its ready and at 100%.  I've advocated that since day one, and so have a number of others.  The rest of you sit back and talk about how you agree but do nothing else, and the problem continues to grow like a brain tumor.

What would you have me do?  Whine at Ken on a daily basis until I get what I want?  Sorry, but I am not going to do that.  I have expressed my opinion on the matter as have you and several other people.  Ken would have to be a blind fool to not know how we feel.  I do not believe he is a blind fool, so I have to believe that he has made his decision.

You can be pro-active and tell these people to not enter such data, and tell them why.  You should get hard core about not allowing anything that isn't sourced in the database.  Mainly, its just attitude.  If you sit back and act like you don't care, then the lazy ones and the newbies will continue and so will those who just don't give a damn.  If enough of us presented a united front maybe we could get these people to leave off until things work 100%.    Maybe I'm expecting too much, but why else would you participate here if it didn't matter to you?

I do tell people they shouldn't enter this data because we don't have a standard set up.  That is all I can do.  I can't force anybody to abide by my opinion nor can I vote 'no' on these contributions.  As you pointed out, I am a stickler for the rules.  As a stickler, I can't vote 'no' on a contribution that does not violate the rules.

I don't have to like it, but I have to follow the rules.  It wouldn't be 'me' if I did anything else.

I have to agree 100% with Unicus on this one... As long as they are following the rules we have to vote yes... whether we agree with any portion of the rule or not.

We made our voices heard that we believe this should wait... that is all we can do... from this point it is totally up to Ken if he wants to suspend this feature for now or not.

I agree, Pete. I have stated that any user that wants to use Common name in most instances currently is absolutely NUTS and risks causing himself and all of us an awful lot of additional work once Ken rolls out whatever he is up to.

The name linking works just fine, contrary to the opinions of some here.

Agreed. Unfortunately, those "some" make a lot of noise.

Yes, they do.

What Pete meant was, those of us who believe we should wait, have voiced our opinions.  While I know you don't agree with us, I do believe you 'heard' us.  Beyond that, there isn't much more we can do.

I hope that clears up any misunderstanding.

Yes... that is exactly what I meant. And I would never vote against the rules... so if anyone decides to use the common name... sourcing the names and all.... I would never vote against it.
