I contributed completely new profile with hi-res cover images and with following note:

New contribution with hi-res cover images.

Cast and Crew from film credits.
Other specs from discs and movie.

Still I got it declined with this text:
The contribution notes indicated a valid source for the changes, but the contents of the changes appear to come from an invalid source. If the source is valid, recontribute with an extended note. If not, please do not contribute the data that comes from an invalid source, such as a third party database.

So, my question is what I should write in contribution notes? A short novel? I can warn you, I'm not a good novelist. Or what?

Well first of all were you telling the truth?

If so then I suspect the cast list happens to be (in this case) a very close match to the IMDb and you 1) should have a look to see if this is the case, 2) double check to see if IMDb has an error identical to yours which would put the screeners on the defensive and 3) should ensure you explain in your next contribution that (if this is the case) IMDb is a close match to the crdits and you really did get them from the legal source

I think there must be an indicator in your contribution to an unvalid source. Maybe your text "Cast and Crew from film credits" was misunderstood? Did you take this only from the dvd? If so it should be clearly expressed.

Did you add uncredited cast on your contribution? And if so did you thouroughly state your source (not being IMDB at least).

I don't want to quote anybody specially.

With that note what I wrote you can tell that that I'm a liar. I'm impressed. I hope that you have made correct career choice.

If IMDb data is 100% match to films credits. (In real life miracles do happen sometimes.) Contribution will be declined automatically because of this. Sounds weird but I'm not the one who is making the rules.

Also if I have made some tiny error in profile, whole profile is declined. Sound little unfair, but again I'm not the one who is making the rules.

As long as my own local and online lists are like I made them I'm happy to program and can live by the rules.
It would be nice to contribute profiles and share them to all, but I really don't want to write short novel because of this.

So I repeat my question: what I need to write in contribution notes for new profiles?

JaLe, before we can really answer this question, ew need to know the UPC/EAN and the title of the dvd. If you would  give these to us, and we can answer better.

Sometimes the screeners make a mistake... it happens, there is this line in the decline reasons which should help.

JaLe, nobody suspects you to be a liar. We just try to find out what the problem with your contribution could be. As you may know, using third party databases is a very problematic issue when contributing profiles. So you should only make absolutely clear that you did not use any third party databases for your contributions. So to answer your question for what to write in the contribution notes (example):

- cast and crew taken from credits of original dvd
- no third party databases involved in contribution

just my proposal, of course subject to futher discussions!

To me, it means that your notes are correct but maybe you have included uncredited cast or some of your cast include a Birth Year in your contribution.

Any of these will result in a decline if they are not properly documented.

I don't think it would be a birth year issue as they have another reason for it...
Quote:
Please use birth years only to distinguish between otherwise identical cast and crew. New birth year submissions must be documented.

Uncredited could cause something like this... if uncredited was added and your notes just say "Cast and Crew from film credits." then where did the uncredited come from? and I could see such a reason. So this one I would think is possible.

Maybe I just was little bad mood or something.

If I write "Cast and Crew from film credits" it is from this film not any other.
This is nothing to do with any exact UPC/EAN. It is an overall issue what king of data NEW contribution note must include.

I know that when existing profile is edited there must be proper info about changes.

Well, life goes on and after a good night sleep new day looks much brighter.

Happy contributions to everybody

why would the quality of the contribution notes for new contributions be any less then those of updates? Either way you need to explain exactly what you are putting in the profile and where the info comes from.

I have made new contributions successfully with shorter contribution notes than JaLe. For example Apocalypto:

"Source for data is DVD. Notice that back cover has wrong running time (2:20)."

What JaLe told in his contribution notes, should be enough for a new contribution.

One this that is wrong here is the reason for decline:
The contribution notes indicated a valid source for the changes, but the contents of the changes appear...

JaLe's contribution was new, so how can there be any "changes".

I think that this implies that you have taken other specs (not cast/crew) from the disc and have taken  the cast / crew from another source.

You just need to reword this to make clear that you picked up all details from the version of the film on the dvd.

How can you say any better that cast and crew are NOT from another source?

It could be just an oversight, jykke. Or it could be simple case of there being a question in the screeners mind. As I noted, on rare ocassion TWSNBN get it right, and perhaps this was one of those cases, so comparing to their data, gave the appearance of something that didn't really occur. So resubmitting and reinforcing the Notes a little might be helpful.
