What's in the credits changes nothing?

Ahhh. you see I wasn't sure if you did know how the credits ran.

This might be the only case of the full movie title not appearing on screen all at once that I can recall.  Certainly pre '68.  Sure some productions like to play games with the title sequences, but the movie title, with the exception of this one time, always appears in full at some point during the opening credits, pre '68.

That was a great catch by the Profiler users, 'cause I would have missed it if I were going by film credits.

I have never been aware that we are accepting "Title Cards" as references. BTW, there is only one title card that has ever been released for this film. Perhaps you are thinking of something else?

Dan, when I say title card, I refer to the actual title card that appears on screen during the credits.  I just popped the film in and double checked.  "Alfred Hitchcock's" and "The Birds" appear on completely separate screens in the film credits.

Thanks. Now that I understand that you are talking about film credits rather than title cards, I'll have to take a look.

You have to understand that a "title card" is a paper advertisement that was part of a set of "lobby cards" (usually a set of 8 and measure 11x14) that was generally used as a display in theater lobbies.

Let me just state, for the record, that I don't actually expect this profile to change.  Like I said before, I didn't even submit it.  I just think that this particular case is an example of us being too smart for our own good.  Sometimes, when you're the only one in the entire world doing things a certain way, it's because you're wrong.  I know that's difficult for us to grasp, but it is a possibility.

Regardless, as has been noted, I can easily change this locally and so can anyone else.  It's just weird that, according to Profiler, there's no movie called "The Birds"...well, unless I get the DVDs from Korea or Hong Kong.    Oh wait, or unless I get the one inluded in the Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection, Universal put out in 2005.  Seems that one has a different title.

Heheh.....not to be an ass, but I just referred to those as lobby cards.  An honest mistake and I wasn't purposely trying to be confusing.

It was getting to be a slow weekend.  Glad I could liven things up.

Edited to note that the original contributor pulled it down.  That sort of makes this entire thing moot.

No wait, check out his contribution for Psycho!  A heck of a way to make a point, if we're going to be wrong, we should be consistently wrong.

In an effort to bring something of substance back to the conversation, I decided to check out some other Hitchcock films.

I submit to you Rear Window, Vertigo and Psycho.  All three movies have "Alfred Hitchcock's" in their film credits directly preceeding the actual movie title.  Now, it is certainly possible that all three of these movies are incorrectly named in our and everyone elses databases, or it could be that "Alfred Hitchcock's" is not properly part of the title.  Personally, my money is on the idea that we flat got the title wrong for The Birds, but you guys figure it out any way you like.

Just as a side note, Vertigo, Psycho and The Birds list the credits identically.  That is, "Alfred Hitchcock's" on one screen immediately followed by the movie title on the next.  Rear Window actually has "Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window" on the title screen.  Although, "Afred Hitchcock's" is in significantly smaller font.

The line forms to the left for servings of crow.
