With all the DVD's that we collect and watch, I think it would be a good idea if there was a place to comment on the films themselves. I usually buy my DVD's at Walmart in the 5 dollar bin or used at Block Buster Video or Newbury Comics. I'll buy films that are ones that I have not seen in the theatre for one reason or another and when I can pick it up for under 5.00 I will. I have to say as of recent I have had a bad run of awful films. Reno 911 Miami and Shaggy Dog with Tim Allan as of recent. I think a forum to get individual opinions of the movies themselves would be beneficial and perhaps a rating system to add to the profile in DVD profiler would add benefit to the Profiler software.

Each DVD has its own review section - on both the DVD itself and the movie. You can also click on the star in the tool bar which will take you to any reviews submitted by other users. Probably doesn't help you in Walmart unless you are carting around your home PC, but...

I did not know that was there. I was just checking it out and saw the DVD Review and Film Review. When you click on comments though I got an access violation in 008a593a of dvdpro.exe. Where do you comment on the film to give your opinions and where can you read what others have written.

The access violation normally appears when you click on Comment but there is no review you can comment (text field empty, nobody wrote a review yet)
To write your own review, use Contribute Review from the Online menu (or the star with hand icon in the tool bar)

My reviews would be rather skimpy:

It was good.
I liked it.
The CGI effects were cool.
It blows chunks.
I found it rather droll.
Etc.

That's useful info 8Ball. If I hear it blows chunks for the majority of reviews I would be least likely to buy. In going through my collection I only found one review so far after reviewing 100 profiles. This is clearly a feature that is not used. If there were an icon that could be highlighted to see reviews when available that would be cool. Being the film lovers we are, I would like to see more reviewing of films we own.

And I for one would not be opposed to 8Balls film reviews. Reno 911 Miami and Shaggy Dog blew CHUNKS.

My review would be:

"Hey I bought it didn't I? And I still have it don't I?"

Your mileage, (or Running time,) may vary.

The review feature would be much more useful if there was an indicator in the general info section (and as option for HTML windows) that a text review is available for a profile. I have just clicked on the review button of about 100 profiles just to learn that no review is available.

Whereas, each one of my reviews would be larger than a typical 1,000-profile user backup file...

Which is why I'll never submit a review. When I become a critic, I discuss everything at great length. I have a doctorate in theology, but people who know me think it's in trivial effluvia.

If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

So I guess the game here is to collect shiny discs, Figure out how to store the shiny discs, argue with others about the common names and rules in how to profile the shiny discs, but not to watch the shiny discs or review the content of the shiny discs as it would take away from all of the above.

I have done a couple reviews for DVDProfiler... but not many. I Know I did the first couple of seasons of Alias... other then that I am not sure.

I do some (amateurish)  reviews for different forums and email lists... I will have to try to add my over-all thoughts to DVD Profiler as well. After all... every little bit helps I guess.

I do watch the shiny discs on a regular basis. They look round, shiny on one side, and most often have nice picture on the other side.

No. Watch the shiny discs, review the shiny discs. Whether I choose to read anyone's review is my business. I may; I may not.

I choose not to write a review, because I suspect no one will read beyond the first paragraph or three, and by then, I'm moving away from my introductory remarks and heading into the meat of the essay. Ken's storage would run out of room before anyone with amazing willpower could reach any of my conclusions.

My BA is in English, with a concentration in Film Criticism, and a minor in Film, Radio, and Television Production. I tend(ed), as I wrote, to be awesomely verbose when discussing media in critical fashion. One professor wrote on an essay I submitted, "I asked for three pages, not Eisenstein's The Film Sense."
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

How about then, and then this should be moved to the feature request forum, Instead of a blank page to write a review then a radio box selection to check.

Say something like

Must See An Epic Masterpiece
Entertaining
Was OK, Glad I waited for DVD instead of seeing at the theatre
Slept through some of the movie
Slept through the whole movie
Blows Chunks (Thanks 8Ball)

At least this way we can all see some sort of review when we pull up the profile. And again could be a fun topic to discuss.
