Hi,
I clicked on ScrapeGoat and got the same error as the other three that I previously mentioned.  I flagged several profiles and clicked on Collection/Flagged and can't identify anything that seems related to BulkEdit.
I don't know to what you're referring when you say "see the BulkEdit icon for the ones I provide".
Ah! I figured out the icon reference.  It's what appears to be a little spreadsheet with a pencil hovering above.  All 8 with the icon result in the same error indication.

I have an Acer netbook on which I have Profiler indstalled.  I hadn't updated anything since the middle of last year.  I may be mixed up on the order of some things as I've been fooling with 2 computers but I'll give it my best shot.
I tried to install my latest backup prior to updating profiler and that was a no go; version conflict.  I tried a database repair prior to updating and managed to delete all my cast and crew.  I restored from the backup on the netbook.  I installed an older version of BulkEdit (2.37?) and when I started profiler saw the message about something being added which I haven't seen on my main computer.  Flagged a few profiles and selected BulkEdit and the window opened as expected.  Closed it and updated Profiler.  BulkEdit no longer worked.  Restored database from latest backup and still no success.  The netbook is so slow I'm not exactly sure where I am now; I do other stuff while it's doing it's thing.  I'm not sure if I installed the newest version of BulkEdit or not.  I'll try that later but I don't have time now.

Keep in mind that V2.37 does not run on Profiler 3.9.0.

I'm really perplexed that all of the menus give the same error, since they run different code. But I will look to see if there is a common branch point that I have forgotten about.

Edit: I checked, and there is one common point where I ask for the list of filtered profiles, even before processing the menu item. Only thing I can thing of is a null filtered list, which should not happen. Maybe if all profiles are in custom categories and none in "Owned". I'll try testing with that. But, is that your situation?

I have everything in All.  I checked and I have the latest version of BulkEdit on the netbook.
I think it's important that the new plugin message hasn't appeared when BulkEdit installed on either.

On the netbook I did a System Restore and got back to 3.8.  When I started profiler I got a message saying that a newer database was found and to install 3.9.  I waited and eventually 3.8 showed up with the new data.  Hmm....  I installed the older version of BulkEdit and when I started Profiler the New Plug In message appeared.  I flagged the profiles that I wanted to change, started BulkEdit, made the changes and all was well.
I just restarted Profiler on the netbook and all changes are correct.  I doubt that I can do a backup and be able to do a restore on the desktop but I may have to give it a try.

Well, I really haven't gotten what I hoped for; the ability to modify the database on my desktop.  If I can load the database that I've saved on the netbook to my desktop that will work, but future edits won't be possible.  If I can revert to 3.8 on the desktop, restore the database saved on the netbook, and then update to 3.9 that will provide a temporary solution.  I do suggest waiting to hear if any others have experienced problems. Not much sense trying to solve a problem unique to one person.  Thanks again for the fine program.

You're welcome. And I don't mind solving a problem for one person - it's just that we haven't found a way to be successful in figuring out what is causing the error.

Good news!  I was able to restore the database on my desktop (3.9) with the backup made on the netbook (3.8). This ought to hold me for another few years.
I still suspect that that when Profiler did not acknowledge that a new plugin had been added is an important clue to solving the problem.  I don't know enough to investigate further.  If you need a guinea pig, I'm available.

The plugin was not new. Profiler remembers every plugin it has ever seen in the Windows registry. You will get that message only the first time the plugin is installled, even if you re-install Profiler, and even if you re-install the plugin, unless the developer changes the internal plugin ID.

I'm not so sure about that. It might be because that's the way a particular developer likes to do things - change the GUID on each version. But I don't think it is automatic. I might test it sometime.

Hi,
I'm not anticipating a reply but providing an additional observation regarding my recent problem with BulkEdit.  In the "Tools/View Plugins..." window, with BulkEdit checked there is a 4 to 5 second delay before the information of the selected profile is displayed when Profiler is started.  If BulkEdit is unchecked the delay is less than half a second.  Also in that window, when I go from unchecked to checked I sometimes get a "Program not responding" pop up that disappears almost instantaneously.  There is always some delay, pop up or not.

Yes, BulkEdit actually does some work when a DVD is selected. The slower your PC, the more noticeable this effect will be.

Profiler 3.9.0, and maybe even back to 3.8,  have introduced new features that plugins can use that will make this work more efficient. I just haven't gotten around to re-writing that code.

Since this code has been there, unchanged since day 1, I doubt that it could be the source of your recent problems.

I just took a look at some of that helper code, and still haven't found anything.

BulkEdit used to have a fair number of users. I have lost track of that, and I wonder if many people are still using it. If so, it would be good to get some corroboration of success / failure of the latest version to work correctly for other users.

Hi,
It's been awhile since I've used BulkEdit so I don't know if problems that I'm having are related to recent changes.  (I created images but can't seem to include them)  I've tried various numbers of profiles.  When I View Plugins BulkEdit is checked and when I click Options I really don't understand the selections.

When I select BulkEdit I see a menu with three choices.  And when a click on any choice I see a box open with "Error" in the upper left and "Operation aborted" displayed below BulkEdit

I've tried V2.60 and V2.73.

I'm using Win 7 64 professional and do not have Profiler 3.9 installed in the default location. Any suggestions as to what to check?

Jim F.

I am going to PM you with a link to V2.74 which has some code to attempt to display the error.

Anyone else having problems, please PM me for the link.

Hi mediadogg,
first of all thanks for providing this much appreciated tool.
One question, though: Is it possible to modify just some profile fields (say "Location" and "Notes") by importing a csv file, and leave all other fields unaffected, so as to merge data?
Somehow I couldn't manage that; when importing my csv file I deleted all other information.
Sorry if I missed anything from previous posts, but I couldn't read through 45 pages.
Yours
CGF.
