... that (if possible) you make it so we can italicize words, bold words, etc so it will make the overview much easier to match to the back cover.

Thank you

I don't like the idea of graphically simulating the back cover as close as possible. Taking the plain text overview from the cover in normal language mixed case is what I want to see in the database. Even copiing the all caps parts and using quotes for bold and italic is more disturbing than helping in my opinion.

How can you even make that arguement? It is very distacting seeing all the quotes to simulate the different fonts. I am not saying you are not entitled to your opinion, but I do think it would look so much better if we could use the actual font that is on the cover.

Either that ... or do away with the quotes entirely. That would be the only other option ... in my opinion.

Look the two examples over below and tell me that the bottom isn't so much nicer and easier to look at.

Academy Award® - winning director 'John G. Avildsen' ('Rocky') brings his gutsy, inspirational brand of filmmaking to the heroic life of rodeo legend Lane Frost. 'Luke Perry' ("Beverly Hills, 90210", 'The Fifth Element') stars as the bull riding champion who fights to achieve his childhood dreams - both in and out of the rodeo ring. Also starring 'Stephen Baldwin' ('Friends and Lovers', 'The Usual Suspects',) as Lane's hard-nosed, soft-hearted best friend and 'Cynthia Geary' ('Smoke Signals', "Northern Exposure") as the woman whose love is enough to make dreams come true.  A powerful score by Bill Conti ('Rocky') and an awesome soundtrack by top country & western artists including 'Vince Gill' and 'Reba McEntire', add to the intensity of this action-packed story of a man who was born to ride.

That's exactly what I have suggested: no imaginary quotes, no ALL CAPS, no bold, no italic ... all plain simple text.

This is actually my preference as well. I would deal with the graphical method if we got that, but if we aren't going to that level, I'd prefer to have all of the garbage stripped out. I don't read quotes around someone's name as an indication of bolding. I read it as 'this is their stage name and not their real name'. But that's just me.

I can go either way. Either have the BOLD, ITALIC, etc ... or just use plain text no marks.

My main point was to try to get away from the (') around a word to mean it was bold or italicized, or whatever. Very confusing.

I will leave it in the hands of the programmers.

I have no problems with the simple look either.  From reading around on different sites, a lot of "normal" users find our contribution system too complex already.  I've seen many people say it's too complicated and we're too anal and it's not worth contributing profiles because they get voted down for not being perfect enough.

Adding this feature would just be one more step to alienate the normal users out there.  And now that only paying member can contribute, I think we should consider this very carefully.  We can't afford to chase away even more contributors.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
