This poll is INVALID. All of the information was not properly represented at the start of the poll. If we want a true answer as to how the community feels, the poll needs to be redone.

Why? Anybody can still change his vote.

Of course it does.  But what are you going to put in a new one?

Those who wanted ALL the crew and cast data in the master profile have created a monster and now they are complaining about lists that are hundreds of lines long.  I pointed this out early on, and was told I was all wet, that it was 'easier' to put the main cast in every episode, so it was better.  The urge to say I told you so is well nigh impossible to resist.

Let me give you a concrete, real world example of how bigger and all in one can bite you.  In World War II, the Germans kept building bigger, more powerful, more heavily armored tanks.  They were devastatingly deadly in a face to face fight, but they had some major flaws.  They were incredibly expensive and complicated to build, and they were godawful slow.  The Russians and the US took a different approach.  They built thousands of small nimble tanks that were cheap to build, and flooded the battlefields with them.  Those big nasty King Tigers didn't stand a chance.

The point is, if you load the master down with all that stuff that is easier to handle at the child level, you're creating more problems for youself than you need.

Of course, doing it on an a disc level basis means having to accept child profiles for those who want only a master.  Whatever are you gonna do?

Who is complaining...? I may have overlooked it, but I think I have not seen any complain yet.

Well, so far he only reminded me of Juror #3 in "12 Angry Men" (the one who was the last to listen to reason and logic, having only prejudice and personal issues as arguments), but it seems out friend Rifter has taken the next step, coming up with tank comparisons and seeing complaints that aren't there. Somebody got a strait jacket ready ? Don't listen to the voices in your head, Rifter, it's gonna be alright...

Does everyone who voted know to come back in here and look at the new facts? Of course not.

So, Ross, are you saying we need a bigger majority in order to make a recommendation to Ken?

Personally, I don't think so.

He's saying that, due to the fact that information regarding the options of the poll were not fully spelled out at the start (EG: what "main cast" means, how it should be determined, and opinions on how well this works in actual implentations), not all the voters can be considered fully informed.  Because of that, the results cannot be considered truly valid.

As for the actual majority needed, the current results are in fact not completely separated, statistically.  The margin for error (with 95% confidence) for 106 votes is about 10%.  That means that for a vote spread of under 21 votes, you cannot be certain that there is an actual difference in the opinions of the global population, or that the poll choice that currently appears to have a lead actually does.

For both of the above reasons, no, you cannot make a reliable recommendation to Ken based on the current poll.  Of course that doesn't prevent Ken from making his own decision anyway.

Sorry, but I detest recounts!

Someone could make the same argument about the next poll that gets posted.

How many times would it take and what type of majority is required to make it "definitive"?

All we need to do is point Ken to this thread and let him take it from there.

I agree. All the info is here for Ken to see.

I recall the Rules Group had the same poll (with tweaked wording) 3 times (or was it 2? and 3 in my nightmares about it) and the result was the same every time  Yet certain users (yes those 2  ) would still not accept the result and looked for yet another recount.

As long as the original poll is fully defined on what's being asked (eg: the exact proposed wording of any rewriting of the rules) and what its scope is (eg: which types of DVDs this applies to), and all major points are at least initially presented on the first day, it should be fine.  The more limited the proposal, the better, as that prevents sidetracking on what is "meant" in the poll options.

You should also specify what will end the poll (set amount of time, set number of votes, etc) so it doesn't keep dragging out with a handful of vocal objectors.  Once closed, it should be considered resolved (if appropriate vote margin is achieved) until/unless Ken says otherwise.

If you can get around 100 votes, a 60% majority should suffice (margin of error is 10%, so vote spread of 20%, ie: 60-40).

Have any heard of the term in democracy, Majority rules!
I see a majority for option 2.

This is not a vote for change in the constitution. And that means 2/3 of the votes in my country.

Call Ken in, so he and Gerri can decide what's best.

PS. I voted for option 2

What he said.

Keep in mind that I'm fully supportive of Option #2 - it's the only option that makes sense. But this cannot be viewed as a legitimate poll at this point.
