Wait a minute here.

The rules state to use the CLT for any credited as entries.

The CLT indicates that Thomas Burman is the common name. You suspected this was incorrect and started a thread to determine the 'true' common name.
That hasn't been established sufficiently in this thread yet.

Therefore, as far as I am concerned, the current base CLT result are correct. Until this thread conclusively results in Thomas R. Burman being the common name it seems like you are simply twisting results to suit your preferences.

Don't get me wrong...I sincerely hope that Thomas R. is the correct name as it will save a lot of time/energy changing all the current profiles.
However, I don't agree with jumping to that conclusion without gathering all the supporting evidence together.

Just because the CLT shows Thomas R. as having more profile that doesn't mean they're all correct.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I though the purpose of these threads was to determine a common name so that in future contributions we can refer to this thread.
Currently I'd rather refer to a fart in the wind - it's just as relevant and accurate.

I could also check "Grey's Anatomy" Season 1-4, but unfortunately not before the weekend.

I feel that it is established sufficiently in this thread. Of course, we could use one or two more confirmed titles, but the results as of yet give me no reason whatsoever to remove existing Thomas R. Burman common names. Let's not forget that's what's happening here, right? It's not that I am trying to change an existing entry based on the findings of this thread - it's you who was trying to do that. You're the one who was jumping the gun, not me. You conveniently forgot to mention that.

And as far as I am concerned, the current findings from this thread are correct. I'm not twisting anything - instead I've done quite a bit of work to present the actual balance between the name variants as accurate and as transparent as possible - much clearer than the CLT could ever do. As for my preference: I would only prefer not to ping-pong this man's entries in my database to an obviously incorrect common name that we'll going to have to change right back next week. That's all.

There's the key: you actually hope and expect that Thomas R. Burman is indeed the common name. Why then would you still submit a contribution *removing* that common name, while this thread shows absolutely no support for that whatsoever?

However, I don't agree with jumping to that conclusion without gathering all the supporting evidence together.

By trying to remove that common name from a profile, you have jumped to conclusions, again without there being any support for that whatsoever. Again: that was you jumping to conclusions, you that were confident that the current findings were firm enough to warrant a change, not me.

My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

I'm trying to establish the common name for special effects make-up artist Thomas/Tom (R.) Burman. The raw CLT numbers for the two most common name variants are awfully close together (currently 60 vs. 58 titles) and are thrown off by the CLT's inability to deal with TV child profiles. Links:

Nice.

As for the profile I attempted to change - as you well know that was submitted prior to you starting this thread and was based solely on the results of the CLT. You voted NO - BEFORE this thread reached any conclusion. I have not resubmitted that profile - why would I? It's probably an incorrect change.

However, I will once again point out that my contribution was based on the base results of the CLT. Exactly what the contribution rules states we should do.

Lastly. Even now you state this thread is conclusive; but it's not.
If the 2 titles left for Thomas R. Burman turn out to be Tom Burman then we get a 30/29 split in favour of Tom Burman (assuming all of his are confirmed as being correct).
It is for this reason only that I object to you declaring this thread as a conclusive source of the common name.

Do I think the above is going to happen? No, of course I don't. But, that doesn't mean I'm willing to simply say Thomas R. Burman is the common name because you tell me it is.

As I have clearly stated - but maybe you haven't understood - I will happily use the correct common name once it has definitively been established. It's really not that hard to understand is it?
