I can't find this in forum search or the rules, but we agreed a while back that 3D/2D combo sets shoudl have the 3D info on the parent with a child profile for the 2D version if it's a separate disc and DVD version if present, right? There should not be 3D children for this sort of set?

As an extension to this: With UHD/3D combos, we should use the UHD as the parent and make a child for the 3D disc, right?

I think the Parent contains the type prominently listed on the cover.  Some releases considered the 3D as the bonus, if I recall correctly.

Can't speak to that as I don't have any UHDs.

Most studios do separate releases for 3D and UHD. Imax and Sony stuff are about the only time you'll see them together. Here are some examples:

Flight of the Butterflies
Angry Birds
Ghostbusters

Thoughts on this title?

It's currently in the Database as being a blu-ray, and children for 3D Blu-ray & DVD.

There is a pending update to swap the parent to 3D and make the children Blu-ray & DVD.

I think the key is Blu-ray being listed first.

I think it's important to have norms about what takes precedence, otherwise it gets really arbitrary.

What are you saying?  The norm would be what is listed first.

I agree with DoubleDownAgain...precedence should be given to the first one listed with child profiles for the rest.

The main problem with that is order is frequently ambiguous and many releases would have digital copy as their primary profile by that standard.

I wish it truly worked that way... then the ones out there that list the DVD first (even come in a DVD case instead of a blu-ray case could be DVD parent and blu-ray child... but the rules say no to that. So I would give precedence to how it is on the case unless it was allowed all the way around. But those are my feelings personally.

I don't believe I own a single release where the digital copy is listed first.  From what I have just quickly looked at, they are all listed last. Do you have any examples?

Alien vs Predator Requiem lists digital copy first. Disney's A Christmas Carol list the 2D Blu-ray first on the front cover & 3D DVD first on the back. Also, as addicted2DVD points out, the rules say on BD/DVD combos the DVD gets the child profile, not that it depends on packaging.

Also, the parent list features, audio tracks, etc for the 3D disc only, right? This doesn't seem to be consistent now. How about formats? Precedent seems to be that if it's a 3D-only disc and a 2D-only disc, you list the parent as both 3D and 2D.

AvP Requiem is NOT a combo set.  It is a stand alone Blu-ray with a digital copy so isn't relevant to this discussion.

This is a BD/DVD combo, which is already covered by the rules so, again, not relevant to this discussion.

We are not talking about BD/DVD combo sets here.  We are discussing 3D Blu-ray/2D Blu-ray combo sets as well as UHD/3D Blu-ray combo sets.

Absent any rule, the easiest method is to use the order they are listed on the front of the case.

I think absent any rule, easiest thing to do is follow precedent on similar issues. Also, as I said, it's fairly common for the contents to be listed several times in different orders. I'm pretty sure we had a definitive ruling on this a few years ago, but I can't find it. Post history only goes back 2 years.

There is no precedent that I am aware of and, if you use the order from the front cover, it doesn't matter how it is listed anywhere else.

This really shouldn't be this hard.

The precedent is Blu-ray/DVD combo packs. It's essentially the same issue with different formats. If we don't care about the order things are written on the package there, which should do so here? It would create confusing, inconsistent rules.
