I don't know about everyone else, but for titles that have yet to be released I have them in my 'ordered' tab.

A basic profile without cast and crew is very easy - about five minutes.  But I'd far rather wait until the title is actually released before I add it.  It's much easier to keep track that way.  (Mainly because I too hope that someone else will have created the profile in the meantime!)

Different contributors have different areas that they specialise in.  I'm very much a cast and crew contributor.  I'm still working through all my old Network titles and making sure they're all fully credited within the database.

There are some who like to make sure the rating details are correct, others who are very picky about studios, some who like to make sure the overview is correct, others who want the edition fields to all tidy up neatly.  I dare say we all look at the work the others do and think 'it's nice that they're doing that, but I don't know why they're bothering' while we work on our own area of interest.  But there are now very few people who contribute regularly.

The database is very much centred around contributing the titles that you own.  To contribute a title that you don't own, you still need to treat it as one that you do own, then submit it.  So people tend to only contribute the titles that they actually possess.

For copyright reasons we can't harvest cast and crew details from the IMDb, so they all need to be entered manually.

For quality reasons we can't harvest cast and crew details from the IMDb, because I have never encountered a single IMDb entry that didn't contain at least one error.  So every profile here has to be (or at least *should* be) created from scratch, and the cast and crew details sourced directly from the on-screen credits. That's why it takes so long to create a profile.

This is it you see, folks only pick the ones they're interested in out of a list of 4-6 preorders.  No one seems interested in the greater good of the community and the comprehensiveness of the database.  Is it really that hard to add them? (I don't know because I only have the iOS version)

If you're creating a profile from scratch and doing it properly, it takes a minimum of thirty minutes.  It can take an hour.  (Unless you're simply cloning an earlier profile and adding the new cover.  The trouble with Indicator is that quite often they're the first people who've ever released something.)

So, yes, it's quite a bit of work.  And when there are very, very few of you doing it, it's time that you don't necessarily have to spare all that often.

Also, I don't buy every title Indicator puts out.  (I have no interest at all in Rollin, for instance.)  I also don't pre-order every Arrow title - only the ones I want.

So when someone complains that not enough of us are doing it, and that German users are more community-minded, it's a bit of a slap in the face.

I don't think I've ever seen a single IMDb set of credits that doesn't contain at least one mistake.

It was once a valuable resource (and I'm talking probably twenty years ago).  It's definitely not any more.

It seems like we're a couple of days behind again on updates being approved but not processed.

Also, I'm getting this error when I'm trying to refresh:

"This file format is a later version than this program's version.

The new format is incompatible with this version.

To process this file, obtain a newer copy of DVD Profiler."

But I have the most current version.  Anyone else seeing this?
