Does this "reflect BBFC rating info given at the time of release"? How do we know? This is obviously something that is written by a third party, probably someone at the media company. Whilst it's a moot point.
I know because I've followed the BBFC for a long time. Legally the companies are not allowed to supply their own wording to put on the case. It has to follow what the BBFC make available for the public if they choose to provide detail. The same way the logo has to be displayed and has to follow the BBFC's current size and design at the time of printing.
If you'd searched the BBFC's website at the time that's the advice you would have seen and is not something somebody at the company has made up, you'll find the same wording across multiple releases from multiple compmanies.
The BBFC are forever tinkering with how they rate and how they word it based on the whims of the current viewing public by doing regular surveys. You can imagine if you had wanted to update from the website we'd be continually changing the rating info every few years.
I will say I've changed my mind on adding the the totally generic wording e.g. only suitable for adults because this is included as part of the rating in Profiler anyway. | Posted: Topic Replies: 10, Topic Views: 2253 |

Ultimately the rules say we should enter the details that are on the cover in the absence of other sources, so if this is what's there it is within the rules to include it. Removing it or voting no on it is not.
It matters because we don't, and have never, include(d) the rating definition in the rating details. The rating details are the descriptors for why a specific film received the rating it did and is unique to that film. The definition is just a boiler plate/generic explanation for the rating which is independent to the film.
For the US' PG-13 rating we don't add "Some Material May Be Inappropriate for Children Under 13" to the rating details field.
I don't see why this would be any different for other countries. I come back to the point that I said I was comfortable with overwriting the generic wording with the actual wording from the BBFC site where it's available. But I still don't see a particular problem where it is the only 'detail' available. Do you filter on ratings detail?
What I certainly don't agree with is overwriting it in cases where the detail is correctly provided on the sleeve of the case and in the profile from that sleeve. The BBFC have a history of changing the advice, so what's currently on the website does not necessarily reflect the advice that was given at the time a title was released.
For example:
5-039036-012348 - 28 Days Later.
What's in the current profile is correct as the advice in the boxes on the back cover reflect the way they broke it down at the time, so it should not be replaced with what is currently on the BBFC website if it differs. | Posted: Topic Replies: 12, Topic Views: 2791 |

Yes it is a generic wording and not the full advice, so you could argue it doesn't serve any real purpose, but for a long time it was the only wording they provided. They didn't feel the need to give a detailed breakdown of ratings. So for all intents and purposes it is the rating advice regardless of how generic it is.
I would be comfortable leaving it as is, unless the detailed breakdown is given on the BBFC website (not all films are listed and not all films have detailed breakdowns), in which case I would vote no or replace it. | Posted: Topic Replies: 12, Topic Views: 2791 |

I don't think I've seen it as bad as it is today. Fortunately, it's still limited to this subforum, but I wonder how long that will last.
I have no idea how many serious new users still sign up, but it might be a good idea to close the registration and take a closer look at the registration procedure. The only way to post outside the new user forum costs money.
As for anything else I wouldn't expect it to happen. I was surprised they replaced the server when it went down, but they still haven't addressed the online profile list download issue that arose out of it. Nor are broken profiles in the online collection being fixed - see The Abyss in my list for an example.
This is essentially end of life minimal maintenance as far as I can see. | Posted: Topic Replies: 5, Topic Views: 1718 |

I'm viewing it as end of life, i.e. no updates to the program, but they are still maintaining access to the database for submission and downloading.
They also replaced a server that failed recently, preventing any online connection, so we can still submit profiles which the screeners still approve.
This change of server has broken the incremental online database update for the local profiler when adding new titles, which can be worked around by selecting the online tab in profiler, then holding CTRL while selecting Refresh Online Profile list.
You can continue using it locally even when the online functionality stops altogether. What I can't remember is how the registration works. If it requires online validation then at that point any need to reinstall would see us having to use the limited version which would mean the loss of a number of features. | Posted: Topic Replies: 5, Topic Views: 1787 |

Like the desktop version it's no longer being updated and has effectively been withdrawn from the store because it hasn't been recertified with the latest version of the OS.
You used to be able to workaround it by buying it from the amazon app store, but I don't think even that ones available anymore.
Pretty much all you can do is upload your collection and browse it using your phones browser if you want to view it when not at home. | Posted: Topic Replies: 5, Topic Views: 1787 |

I've never seen that one and a quick check shows it working ok for me. Does it only do it for this profile or is it others as well?
The only thing I can think is try using the repair database tool. | Posted: Topic Replies: 1, Topic Views: 796 |

Clunky perhaps, but it should be doable. You could try it and see if it seems practical. That's what I've been doing. Although I just sort alphabetically and scroll through the list, I guess it depends on the phone but it scrolls quickly enough for my purposes. | Posted: Topic Replies: 8, Topic Views: 2784 |

Quote: Is there another way of updating a database from adding the Online List to the folder? This did work, but recently it isn't, and I don't want to go down the full download route without any say over whether to accepted the updates or not, as mentioned by Lithurge earlier on. Doing what I suggested doesn't force you to update the individual profiles.
All it does is make sure you've got the relevant file that tells your local profiler if an update or 'new' profile (if you don't already have it in your list) exists and is available for download. | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 3403 |

I've considered it EoL since they stopped updating the program.
The problem with the updates have existed since they replaced the server that failed, it's only noticeable when you try to add profiles that weren't available the last time you downloaded the online listing.
Personally I've had 22 years use out of the program for a one time fee so whilst I'll be sad to see it finally end, I can't get angry about it. | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 3403 |

It has been released, the problem is that the online profile list no longer updates when you click add to collection.
Go to Online in the Profiler menu and hold CTRL when you select refresh online profile list.
That forces a full download and you'll find you can add the existing Dune profile normally.
You'll need to do the refresh on a regular basis to make sure it's up to date. | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 3403 |

Clearly the film makers thought this was the correct order, regardless of profiler rules or wikipedia. | Posted: Topic Replies: 13, Topic Views: 7993 |

That depends on whether your other program can import XML or CSV, the only built in export function profiler has is to export to XML.
If it stlll works you can find the CSV export plugin here:
http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=162071&PageNum=1
Really you're better off asking in a forum related to the other program what they support in terms of importing and how to go about doing it. | Posted: Topic Replies: 1, Topic Views: 1980 |

Yes it's broken, thanks to greyghost the solution is to go to the online tab in the program and press contol whilst clicking on refresh online profile list. It'll do a full download that'll take a bit longer than usual. | Posted: Topic Replies: 2, Topic Views: 2434 |

Out of curiosity what happens when you click add dvd? I've noticed the usual download you get when you do that errors out every time. It just flashes a red x to the left of pending very quickly before the downoad box goes away and brings up the box to enter the UPC.
When I then entered the EAN for the UK release of Thanksgiving it didn't bring it up. However when I went to the add by title window and typed the name in the release was there.
The only way I can get it to work properly is to do the ctrl refresh method greygost suggests. | Posted: Topic Replies: 56, Topic Views: 13152 |

I've added Conan again and again the broken picture and error occur. There have been issues with individual profiles in the past, although that was corrupt images rather than totally broken, so potentially fixable by uploading replacement images.
If you share the UPC people can try downloading it to see if they get the same issue. | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 8350 |
