Seems there is a bit of disagreement over Skip's contribution where he corrects the title of Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones  to just Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones.

The argument against this is a section of the rules where it says:
Quote:
Episode descriptors are part of the title; separate them with a colon and space; e.g. "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock". For multiple descriptors, use a colon and space for each break, e.g. "Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace".

Well, in my opinion, what this means is that if there is an episode descriptor on the front cover, it should be included in the title. The part about multiple descriptors has an unfortunate example, but I think the intention is clear - if there are multiple descriptors on the front cover, they should be included separated with a colon and a space.

In this case, though, "Episode II" is not on the cover, therefore Skip's interpretation is valid.

No mater how the Rules are written, there are gouing to be these kinds of things that come up, but as I said in my notes, that's the way it is. Whether I like it or not is irrelevant, that is how it is.

The Title as contributed is indeed correct (whether we like it or not).

It is, just not on the front. At least two times in the overview and once in the credits block, and of course in the film itself. I think that should be enough to overrule your "interpretation".

Patsa:

Follow the Rules not what you believe it should be. You people pushed to change the title from On Screen to Front Cover and now you have to pay the price. You are trying to insert information that is NOT called for in the Rules. This just ONE of the reason why I supported and still do using On Screen data but...so....

I must admit I do so enjoy ramming the majority's bad rules back down their throats, it was short-sighted at the time and I tried to explain all of that but as usual if Skip says it then it has to be bad, so live the fallout of your own decision.

Except the rules state to get the title from the front cover... and only exception to that listed is for possessives... so it don't matter is it is in the overview, credit block or film credits. Strictly per the rules. Which is what we need to follow for online database.

Skip: The "Episode" part of the title is clearly implied by the cover art, the reason it's not there is clearly for artistic reasons and not because George Lucas suddenly decided to change the title. But if you want to play it stupid, be my guest. It's no surprise coming from you.

I love it Patsa. You resort to personal insults, when you are simply having to pay for the stupidity of the majority.

Oh, if you want to play insults, Patsa, I can play that game and play it very well and cruelly. I prefer not to do that. Eeven what you probably view as insults at newbs, to me is simply a form of hazing (initiation for the uninformed) and they get treated with all due respect once I nibble on their toes and fingers. But if you REALLY want to engage in personal attacks you had best duck and cover, I can play it with the very best of them. An American slang term relative to slapping comes to mind at the moment.

You know it just occurred to me. Hmmmmm this is amusing. One of the arguments over the On Screen title, at the time involved possessives and that Alfred Hitchcock's and The Birds were on separate screens, Alfred Hitchcock's faded into The Birds. Using that argument precisely what is the title for the Star Wars movies. Even IF we were allowed to use the Credit Block, which we aren't in this case, the credit block reveals nothing since NOTHING is in quotes. <sigh> Oh well, Skip doesn't know what he is talking about and the majority is brilliant....great job folks. You blew it, frankly, which I knew you were.

One difference between me and thee is I recognize that no matter what we do, there is never going to be a PERFECT answer, we have to simply take the Rulkes and dealwith what they tell us to do, even if we don't like the result necessarily, be it a possessive or Lucas' removal oe Episode,, or some other weird thing we will run into. I don't interpret data, I do not pretend to be smarter than the data or the filmmakers, I deal with what is presented, and I am secure in the knowledge that IF I REALLY don't like the answer PERSONALLY I can deal with it locally in any way I wish, I do not labor under any misconception that the Online has to reflect what I want. I don't go running around trying to standardize names in the Online, or any of the other of numerous ways in whcih users desperately try to leave their particular thumbprint on the Online data. I simply do what the Rules dictate. Does that make me smarter than most users, i don't think so, but maybe so.

Patsa:

I don't go looking for ways to stir up trouble, but because I actively Contribute moire data than any other user, it seems to find me. I don't look for it, I don't particularl;y like it when I find it, but neither will I turn my back on it.  I don't go looking for any fights but I will not run and hide from them, as I have said more than once, if you want to fight me, you better learn to eat with those hands FIRST.

I am not here to make you happy, Patsa, I am not here to make me happy. I am here to build a database in whatever way Ken dictates. I realize that is probably far beyond your ken, but that's the way it is and as I said I recognize that I am not always going to be happy with the results of what the Rules tell me to do...SO WHAT, I have neither the desire that a lot of users have to try and stir up trouble or look for ways around the Rules to make the data do what I want it to do, that is what my local database if for.
