I hope this is in the right spot; I'm a little new to these forums, so my apologies if everything isn't quite in order.

I just opened up DVD Profiler tonight, and it seems like the entire collection was erased.  So, I went looking to open up the last backup I made, and that's gone too.  Everything was fine yesterday afternoon.  The only thing I had done between those times was install Azureus Vuze, which I haven't even used yet.  Anyone else have this problem?  I really, really hope I don't have to start all over again, as I had almost 1,000 titles loaded into my collection..... Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Have you tried the File/Open Database? If your existing db is still on the computer, it defaults to My Documents\DVD Profiler\Default. The backup file is *.dpb, so you can search your drive for that. sounds like you are using Vista, which I am not yet doing so someone else may have more ideas. Good luck.

Oh, welcome to the asylum.

Yes, I tried opening the database, and the file is there (last backup dated 1/28/2008), but it comes up with nothing.  I can't imagine how it happened.  And for the record, I'm still running Windows XP Pro.  I'm not touching Vista with a 10 ft. pole.

It's looking like the entire collection just erased itself, and I have to start  from scratch...ugh.  Thanks for the response, anywho.

from the start button, use the search tool
let it search on files and folders on all your drives for a file with the extension dpb
hope your find it as you don't have your collection online.

eventualy you could try this tool:
Ultimate Data Recovery will quickly and easily recover deleted files emptied from the Windows Recycle Bin, or lost due to the format or corruption of a hard drive, virus or trojan infection, unexpected system shutdown or software failure.

Ah, my mistake.
I found my backup file, and it looks like I've got most of it restored.  That is, everything up through my last backup.  Thanks for that, this'll save me countless hours of restoring!

Thanks all!

Glad you got it sorted out. I notice your online collection is empty. It would be a good idea to upload your collection, as that can serve as an emergency backup if your local copy(s) get corrupted.

I prefer to have my backup on a USB key.

Yeah, after I finish catching up, putting in the MST3K stuff I got in the last few days, my next step is to back it up online and on a USB drive.  That one little scare is all I need.  Thanks again!

I store my Database on a Windows 2003 Server and I have 2 Vista Clients that Access it. I have my collection "erased" on a regular basis. I have yet to find any rhyme or reason as to why it happens. It mostly seems to happen when my Wireless client access the database.
and for me only the collection file gets "Emptied" once I download dvd from my online site it keeps the viewing history etc. I also Make weekly backup's in case it gets worse.

I would love to know if anyone else has this issue or possibly a fix.

Do you have Profiler open on both machines at the same time? If so, that may explain your problem. Profiler does not support multiple connections to the database.

No I have been using profiler for a couple years and I hardly access it from my desktop It's mainly accessed with the laptop and a wireless connection. I have been wondering if it's a vista only problem or not. the only thing I can see is that it seems like when I use the wireless about a day later is when it's erased.

I recently purchased a new laptop which runs Vista. I downloaded DVD Profiler without a problem and restored my database from the backup. Again, no problems. The program is running fine in Vista. I backup my database to an external hard drive in addition to the online database.

A very sound backup strategy is needed to preserve & protect your data. All it takes is 1 or 2 losses of a large amount of data to teach that lesson.
