In the profile for "Camp" (027616901255), the role of Fritzi Wagner is credited as "Anna Kendricks". This is wrong in two ways:

1) Her name, as near as I can tell, is Anna Kendrick

2) In the end credits she is credited as "Anna Kendrick"

I'm getting "duplicate record" error messages when I try to correct this, so what are the correct steps for fixing this and submitting the correction? This is my first attempt at any cast submission / correction.

2 ways to achieve this:

1) If an entry for Anna Kendrick exists in your database:
- Open the profile-editor of "Camp" by double-click in the collection-list
- Click on button "Cast"
- In the right panel highlight the incorrect entry of "Anna Kendricks"
- In the "Search"- field type Anna Kendrick
- Make sure the correct entry is selected in left and right pane and choose the button "Replace"

(BTW: Pressing the Shift-key + Replace button will automatically set a "Credited As...")

2) If an entry for Anna Kendrick doesn't exist:
- Open the profile-editor of "Camp" by double-click in the collection-list
- Click on button "Cast"
- In the right panel highlight the incorrect entry of "Anna Kendricks"
- Click on button "Find Actor"
- Click on button "Edit Actor"
- Correct the entry (Remove the incorrect "S") and press OK
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

In this case - since it only differs at the end, it's faster to highlight the name in the right panel and then select "Find Cast Member" and then manually scroll to the correct nearby entry.

I was just looking at the profiles for different region discs and of course noticing other differences, like some having just "Fritzi" as her character, and others having "Fritzi Wagner".

It would seem reasonable for me that the people ultimately judge / accept these submissions might have an easy to use tool for standardizing some information across the different versions.

I'm sure this has been discussed many times before, but could anyone point me to some of the better threads on the topic?

That can be more difficult then one would originally think. While most the time it would be the same across the board... but not always. There is times when different releases will actually have differences in the credits. And that isn't even getting into different regions where the credits are translated into other languages and such.

Addicted2DVD: I get that sometimes scenes (and therefor actors) might end up on the cutting room floor. I suppose that might happen in different regions.

I thought that it would be nice to multiply the power of the user base in some way, by allowing some of us to "opt-in" to a system where the submission approval gods could take note of which of us volunteers happened to have a copy of a movie in our collection, and then PM/email us asking us to check out a potential discrepancy.

I am not just talking about being removed from the credits... but the credits actually being different from one release to the next. This has been documented as happening. So for all we know some releases may have "Fritzi"  while other releases may have "Fritzi Wagner".

What you suggest I really don't see happening... as there is just way to many contributions per day to put more on the screeners like that. You have to figure between all releases in all regions and localities they see hundreds... if not thousands of contributions per day to go through. would slow down the update releases way too much.

Addicted2DVD: I know very little of the screening process, so perhaps all that would be possible would be some automatic system of notifying people about competing information in different releases, and offering them the opportunity to submit updates.

This could simply generate more submissions / corrections to be otherwise voted on via the standard system now in place.

I submitted the correction today because I noticed the difference in a credit entirely by accident. The title has been in my collection since July 2008, so if there were some system which could automatically flag differences across versions, I might have submitted a change almost five years ago, making the database more accurate for everyone.

Very few of us have the time to check everything in a profile across all the other versions when we add a new DVD to our collections. A computer, however, can be programmed to do this very rapidly.

It's not the sort of thing that works for all releases in all regions and languages, but it could certainly work for a lot of releases in a lot of regions and languages.

I think your are over estimating the amount of contributions per day. I only see the same 20 or so posting contributions. Right now for the past 6 Days 12 different contributors and 22 profiles. and that's with just under 5200 titles in my lists.

You are not looking at the full picture... for every BD, DVD and HDDVD that exists... in every region... in every locality. Considering all that 5200 titles is not all that much. And then there is also all the child profiles for all the boxsets and TV Series out there. Then there is the fact that the last time Ken mentioned it he said contributions were at an all time high (at least at that time)... I feel pretty confident that my estimate is pretty darn close.  But I do realize only Ken can say for sure... no different then only he can say for sure if he could do as is being suggested here.

Well I've seen plenty of forum posts saying "that's why they don't contribute anymore" Or new contributors being raked over the coals in the forums, and not seeing anything else from them.
I would be interested in the number per month that the screeners see, and actually the number of screeners. But I don't think we'll ever know.

Also have to remember that not all contributors come to the forums. I know I am always seeing names on contributions that I never see in the forums.

I realize I've suggested something which would create more work. The second idea I had was about finding a way to spread that work around and increasing the number of volunteering contributors.

I get that we don't claim to be the biggest or the most complete information wise, but I did think we were focusing on accuracy.

I personally see having a major actress with her name spelled wrong as a big deal. It means that when I went to that "Camp" profile and clicked "Cast Information", Profiler told me that I didn't own anything else with that actress. That's big time inaccuracy, and accuracy is something I thought we were all about.

Accuracy (to the actual credits) is what is important. I was doing no more then mentioning things that you probably didn't think about. Reasons why I thought what you suggested wouldn't work. No more and no less.

there is a thread with full cast and crew for others to copy and paste to their profiles  HERE
