mediadogg,

I made the above post before you posted your edit to my original post.

I found the reference I was looking for regarding the Decal unit retrieving two discs on one search, here it is from a review of the unit: "There are also little frills, like the ability to select multiple discs for ejection. If you ask for more than one disc, the appropriate Library will go to the first one, pop it out, wait an advertised "3 to 5 seconds" - which gives you enough time to grab the disc - then head on to the next one." Does this change anything in your thinking on a two disc retrieval?

The enire review is here: http://www.dansdata.com/quickshot005.htm

Thank you.
Once again, if you want two disks at a time, go ahead and buy the software they are talking about, LoadDVD does not do it. I mean, why not take advantage of waht it can do - before you start requesting something it can't?
Thanks for your support.

mediadogg,

I will be trying your plug-in. I want something that works with Profiler. Hopefully how to do what I want to do will become more clear once I start working with your plug-in.

Sorry to be so dense.

Thanks very much for the help.

And I'm sorry to be so impatient. I forget that of course it is clear to me ...

Give it a try. Mess with it a bit, then come back and report, and we'll go from there.

I do not know what I am doing wrong.  I have movies as AVI files stored on a raid array.  This array is made as one drive with shared folders.  The network is then just mapped to those folders.  I am trying LoadDVD.  I put "file" in location and then put "W:\B\Blackhawk Down\Blackhawk Down.avi" in the notes section.  Of course I did not use the quotes as instructed.  I then only get an error message "Can't Open / Play!  Please check file path and file association and retry"  I have checked the file association.  If I simply double click on a movie it plays in the software that it is supposed to.  Can you please tell me what I could be doing wrong or if I am just missing something.

Thanks

You are missing the filepath delimiters: Use either [filepath]W:\B\Blackhawk Down\Blackhawk Down.avi[/filepath] or <a href="W:\B\Blackhawk Down\Blackhawk Down.avi"></a>. Edit: I see you already checked file association.

The delimiters allow you to continue to use Notes normally. LoadDVD will find the filepath anywhere you put it - at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end of Notes.

Dogg you have done a fantastic job. Knowing that I havent downloaded it yet (just read through about 60 pages of this thread). Sooooooooooo, I'm sure I'm missing a lot but for playing movies from hard drives (like I think Cheetham is), is the assumption one disc per title?

I'm thinking that I have one title with 4 to 6 disc in the "Personal Information" area.

I just didnt see how to get to the other discs.  I'm sorry if you repeated the answer over again and I will go back and reread it myself without repeating the entry, just point me in the right direction.

Again, what a great piece of work.

Well, I've been thinging, do I just put the unique disc info in the "Location" field with "play" in front of it, for example?

Well you didn't have to read 60 pages. Most of the usage information is in my first post, where both of your questions are answered, with explicit examples even. I really want to help you, but can you imagine how frustrating it is ... on the other hand, perhaps my instructions are poorly written. Sorry  . I'll check back soon ... could you take one more look at the first post? For example, if I answered "yes" to your first question, would you still know what to do (the answer to your question is actually "no")? I have no idea what you mean by "unique disc info". Look at my detailed examples and tell me exactly what you are going to do, using your exact data.

I know you're right. For an Ol' man I sometimes (most of the  time) can easily get confused. You have a great program and function full, so my "pea brain" gets things like dealing with movies in changers and movies ripped to hard disk confused. So when I filter out the changer stuff I also end up filtering some of the hard disk stuff, the later is where I'm going with your product.

Please be gentle with me and when LoadDVD is up and running I will give you a good tip on Paypal.

Back to reading and thanks again for a great product.

Hey now!  . On the other hand, I never required you to send something before I offered my help. Think about it ...

Why not start by telling us something about what you are trying to do? Where is the data? What kind of media? What do you use for a media player? What kind of system, etc.
Thanks for your support.

Dogg I know what you mean. However, you need to be rewarded for your great results with LoadDVD.

First, my day job is starting to get in the way of this, the fun stuff. Let me reread the first entry and then give you an overview of my objectives (I could be wrong but I dont think others are doing what I would like to do), then describe the data, media, player and my system  enviromnent.

This will be my, kind of, dream system and dont even know if it can be done... It's the old thing if I thought of it, surely someone else has done it.

I don't mean to be a pest - but your objectives should be independent of the solution details. So if you want to start with that - at least I can be thinking about it until you are ready to proceed.

I have reread your first post and got more out of it (a lot of information in a few words). I now have a few questions for clarification purposes.  I will address those in a separate post.

MY GOAL
  Overview:
I am trying to put together a home theater system using DVD Profiler/LoadDVD as the main software engine.

Hardware Environment:
• HP Desktop computer Media Center
• USB External Hard Drive farm
• Digital Media Player
• LAN

Software Environment:
• XP Pro
• DVD Profiler/LoadDVD
• Player that supports Digital Media Player

How it works:
The native media player uses two layers of software to accomplish playing a movie or any A/V file. The first layer is Intel  VIIV software/hardware and library support. On top of that is Microsoft Media Library support (BTW: it is probably like you going through support for one of those disc changers).

The hardware digital media player is connected to your home theater and then the LAN (both wired and wireless are supported).

Microsoft Media Library goes out and discovers the media and the hardware digital media player will allow you to search and play media from your couch with a IR remote.

I have left out a ton of details to keep it short.

What I want to do is eliminate the Microsoft and Intel middleware and interface directly with the digital media player software via DVD Profile/LoadDVD.

I’ve kept this very high level but didn’t want to clutter up the thread at this stage.  BTW, I have two media players that I will be working with: Netgear and D-Link. I have done some initial testing with the native version of the D-Link product.

@Gone Fishin'

Well you indeed have a lofty goal. I once had a similar setup using Hauppague MediaMVP.

The biggest issue here is that your Digital Media Player has it's own GUI, and does a "pull" from the network. It locates the file and plays it for you. DVDProfiler / LoadDVD also does a pull.

What you are looking for is "push-pull" or streaming or client-server, or something of that nature.

The alternatives as I see them:

(1) Use LaodDVD to call a program that streams your media to the player. This can be doen easily using the "play" command and batch file scripting. But I doubt if your player is set up to do that.

(2) Fake out the IR remote using the USBUIRT support. This project would require you to capture the IR codes from your remote control, and use LoadDVD to send them to your player - just as though you were controlling it.

Maybe there are other alternatives - they just don't come to mind. Let me know what you come up with.

Another idea: Can your player's GUI be viewed in a browser? If so, maybe it would be possible to have an HTML window docked inside DVD Profiler with your GUI showing. That solves the single GUI issue. Now all that is needed is a message flowing from LoadDVD to the HTML window that pushes the buttons on your player and thereby makes the DVD appear on your HDTV. Hmmm ....
Thanks for your support.

MediaDogg, thanks for the plug-in as well as your comprehensive responses to our inquiries.  I was hoping you could give me a little more specific instruction on a categorization methodology that I'm using (similar to DarkSpells posting from 2/14/08).  I'm using 3 CX995V devices.

the first digit of the collection number represents the device and the last three digits are the disc number, for example:
1089 = First player, disc 89
3312 = Third player, disc 312

was hoping you could tell me specifically how (and where) to program the plug-in to line up with my methodology.

thanks again!
