| Posted: | | | | Quoting JonM: Quote: Well my gast has been truly flabbered! Are there really some of you that buy hundreds of DVDs and don't watch them? I've been on the forums long enough to know a few did this, but the votes show it's almost normal! I have about 30 I reckon, I thought that was so bad my buying has dropped to the minimum.
I can't see why anyone would spend possibly thousands of pounds/dollars on something they don't need. After all a DVD is designed to be played. To not play it is to deny its existence (Whoa, deep!). You could buy a car with that sort of money! Though you probably wouldn't drive it ...
Don't you feel gutted when you buy a new disc at full price than see a better release six months later in a bargain bin? I'm not trying to pick a fight with anyone, I'm just fascinated by how odd you are! I have about 586 titles (of which 123 TV series) to watch. I'm almost halfway through my collection. JonM, we spent this much money because we love to collect movies. Some movies do disappear, so waiting to long will make it impossible to buy them. I do still watch movies on a regular basis though. And really, does anybody pay full price these days. In most cases you only need to wait 3 months and prices are cut in half. I don't mind spending a lot of money on dvd's, but I'm not throwing away my money on overpriced dvd's. Cheers and keep collecting everybody Chris | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

But there are times when you buy a few discs at once and you can't watch them all at once and some remain unwatched for the time being. Or you've seen it just on TV, decide to buy it but don't want to watch it again within a matter of weeks. And then you forget about them and sometimes the perfect time to watch it never comes again. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

38 TV Show Sets... 59 Movies...
So a total of 97 unwatched titles currently. Addicted, I will argue that you do not know how many you have to watch. Father's Day is Sunday - Oh! The Torture!! LOL | | | Brian |

| Posted: | | | | The thing about TV show sets is that there's so much more material to watch per season. Assuming an average show count of 20 and show length of 40 minutes and an average movie length of 1:45, each season is the equivalent of a little more than 7 and a half movies. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Repter: Quote: It's clear from other polls/threads that a lot of us have large collections and still buy a lot of new titles. What I noticed for myself is that every time we buy new ones, we buy more titles than the number of titles we have watched since the last time we went shopping. In other words, I have a huge backlog of DVDs still to watch, yet can't help buying new ones . So... what's your backlogs like ?! Which warrants the question: If a number of years go by and you finally break out that unwatched dvd and then find out it is a defect.. Is the warranty still good?? | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

| Posted: | | | | I'm at 39 titles, 8 are TV shows (some in a partially watched state) 2 concert DVDs and 29 movies (25 of which I've never seen, 4 of which I've seen but not on DVD.) Not too bad out of 1,168. I was up over 80 with less than 800 DVDs at one point. |

And then you forget about them and sometimes the perfect time to watch it never comes again. That's true and has happened quite a few times with me. But not on the scale of hundreds. Those who have chosen the "Over 500" option have spent more on not watching DVDs than most people have on their entire collections. I can't see how it is possible to spend the time to appreciate the value of any given title if it's simply number 348 in the unwatched pile. Quoting cvermeylen: Quote:
I have about 586 titles (of which 123 TV series) to watch. I'm almost halfway through my collection. We have similar sized collections then. I'm at 780, though I suspect over greater time; and I'm planning a big cull! Another controversial act in a forum where people frequently keep double-dips and even titles they don't like. I'm finding I have too many titles to appreciate the really worthy ones. I know that titles can disappear and I too have bought some sooner than normal because I feared they would disappear quick. I've not been right very often though. I can only think of a few titles that I couldn't easily get today. And cheaper. | | | Jon "When Mister Safety Catch Is Not On, Mister Crossbow Is Not Your Friend."

| Posted: | | | | Only got about 17 to watch at the moment... but I am itching to watch some of them. I normally never have more than 1 or 2 to watch.
The problem is that when I get a TV series I have to watch that first, and the films tend to build up.

| Posted: | | | | I have 3233 dvds in my collection, 1436 of which that have been watched and filed on shelves in alpha order. That leaves 1797 dvds that I have yet to watch since I purchased them. Many of these movies I have seen before at one time or another, either on TV or on VHS (I was at over 900 vhs tapes when I made the switch to dvd), but I still plan on watching them again for the first time on dvd. My unwatched movies are on shelves in random order with a numbered sticker on each shelf representing the number of dvds on that shelf, right up to about 1700. When I get energetic I'll take pics to post on here. I use a random number generator (www.random.org) to select which movie I will watch next and then go to the corresponding shelf which holds that numbered dvd. I know... I'm weird. I pick my movies to watch randomly because I know otherwise I'll just pick all the ones I really want to watch and certain dvds will never get touched. I try to watch a movie every night but with a full time job and 2 young kids running around the house it isn't always possible. And I'll likely never catch up as I seem to spend an obscene amount of money on dvds every week. But boy... they sure do look good sitting there! | | | "Man who goes through airport turnstile sideways is going to Bangkok."
