I would go with The Amazing Spider-Man...

looking at the case... it looks separate from the title to me....  there is a bigger space between "Spider-Man" and "in 3D" then there is between "The Amazing" and "Spider-Man".... plus is in a different color.

looking at the example from the link (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas)... it don't seem like the same type of situation to me. My opinion would be different if it said "The Amazing 3D Spider-Man" or something similar.

Taking all those reasons together... I think in this case... it is more of a descriptor then being part of the title.

Unless the title field is now open to everything and anything, it's The Amazing Spider-Man.

If not, I demand that the TM is also added to the title.

but in reality would much prefer for it to be called  The Amazing Spider-Man

I would prefer that as well, but the spine also includes the 'in 3D' so, in my opinion, the media company decided that was the title of this release.

I'm for DVD Title The Amazing Spider-Man, 3D Dimensions.

I think you will find, with few exceptions, that the credit block will reflect the film title, not the DVD title.  That is why I don't usually look at the credit block in these cases.

If the credit block title happens to be the same as the film title, I have no problem with that.

What I was getting at is, we are after the title from the cover and the title in the credit block doesn't always match, so I don't use that as my measuring stick...unless told to in the rules.  Your mileage, of course, will vary.

At this point am in agreement that if the spine says it we shoud do the "in 3D" because of the reasons you are stated.

But there are also good arguments to using the credit block that I can see as well.

I don't really have a problem either way this pans out, but it is clear to me the media company wanted "in 3D" as the release title as you stated.

No one has answered me yet.  How is this any different than a title saying "In Technicolor".  Some DVD's present this in the same way as "In 3D" on this title.

Same position, smaller font and color just like spider man.

Would the same rule apply?

Could we conceivably have a title "Gulliver's Travels In Technicolor"?

Common sense would dictate both these titles to have their correct well known name. However, the rules don't include common sense.

So there's only one question for you Charlie: What does it say on the spline?

(As with the Spider-man thing it also has the "in 3D" thing on the spine, otherwise I would have argued against including it)

When it comes to possessives, we are told to check if the possessive is part of the title in the credit block. So if the credit block is good enough then, why wouldn't it be good enough to determine if "In 3D" is part of the title?

If the opening film credits said "The Amazing Spider-Man in 3D" I maybe could buy that being part of the title, but mine will always read "The Amazing Spider-Man".

I also don't buy "Somebody or Something's Movie Title". These expletives should have their own field.

Just my 2 pennies.
