While I agree with you to a point.... the cover art may not be the only difference. Could be the title is different... see the other thread... there could be differences in the overviews.... in the release dates... etc, etc.

Just because it is the same disc id does not mean that is the only difference.

In this case who knows... one could be called The Addams Family and Addams Family Values and the other release could be The Addams Family Collection for all we know. But still use the same disc in both releases.

You made a good point Pete.  Maybe for a future release we can divide the information between disc specific information (i.e. all releases share information such as features, cast and crew, audio and subtitles, etc.) and release specific information (overview, cover, title, release date, etc.).

Then again this probably would create even more profiles.

I think that Ken is headed towards a single profile for each Film, and then variants for any changes depending on locality and cuts, at least I am hoping he is.

Hopefully so, maybe two (or three) types of profiles.  For box sets you could have a box set profile where only box set related fields are available for contribution (i.e. other disc based fields are not displayed nor available).  Then you'd have a disc based profile where only the disc based fields are available and displayed).  Of course you would still have to have the normal profile if we keep 1-disc releases profiled in one profile (this could be eliminated though).

Right now if you have 10 films in a set that shares the image from the parent profile that image can be stored 11 times (once for the parent and once for each of the 10 films).  This seems inefficient and a waste space.  Maybe Disc profiles can inherit/display the image from the parent profile rather than storing a separate image.  This could be done for other fields too such as the overview.  This would need to be a checkbox thought since some releases have separate cover art for individual discs/child cases.

Right now there can be too much duplicated data between profiles and/or blank fields for each individual profile.
