| Posted: | | | | I just found an interesting article about the similarity between iOS and Mac OS at Touch Arcade. Looks like quite a bit of code is the same for both platforms. Obviously there would still be a lot to do for Ken to transform the iOS app into a full-featured desktop app and he is probably extremely busy with improving the iOS version first but I think the chances for a Mac app might not be as bad as they used to be. Can't hurt to keep bugging him about a Mac version. |

| Posted: | | | | I agree. We really need a Mac version. I am so sick of having to turn on my old Windows PC whenever I have to use/sync DVD Profiler. The iPhone app is great though. |

| Posted: | | | | I have been using dvd profiler on my iphone to catalogue my collection and one of the most frustrating things is that I cannot back it up or refer to it on my macbook or ipad for that matter ! apple has even provided 'app' functionality for macs now. why is it so hard to provide the dvd profiler app for a mac just as it is provided for a iphone or ipad. why on earth cant I share my disc database across my macbook, ipad and iphone. surely this is easily done ? I am sure there are many many iphone ipad owners who are macbook owners as well and using dvd profiler and very frustrated by the situation |

I've been running DVD Profiler on my Mac for several years now using Parallels and Windows XP. You might want to check out Parallels. There are usually special prices on it a couple times each year and you can run a fully functional trial version for some 30 days. There is an even easier solution, without having to own a WinXP license: Use CrossOver (or Wine) for installing and running DVD Profiler on the Mac directly - works like a charm for me, including syncing with DVD Profiler iOS (via WiFi). |

surely this is easily done ? It's not that easy. iOS and OS X share quite a bit of code, but even putting the iOS app on a Mac would require some work. And obviously we would want the Mac version to be as close as possible to the Windows version in regards to functionality. That would require a lot of work. And Apple didn't provide app functionality for Mac. Program files on a Mac always had the extension .app. It's basically the equivalent of .exe on a PC. That doesn't mean you can run iOS apps on a Mac. That said, I hope once Ken gets the iOS app to include all the features he has planned, he will start developing for Mac. |

I cant look at it by any means but the iphone. i'm worried tomorrow if my iphone goes kaput, so does all the work gone in setting up my collection. and there is other eventualities, eg what happens when time comes to upgrade my iphone or replace it ? all my work to catalog my collection goes something is needed for mac users, even if we can just back up the catalog / database via itunes or via saving a file to the mac or something....in the interim until a more full blown mac version of the software can be developed. I'd like to catalog my music too, but am holding back at this stage to see what comes with support for the mac |

That shouldn't be a problem. iTunes makes a backup every time you sinc your iPhone. As long as you restore that backuop to a new iPhone, your collection should still be there. That said, it would be nice to specifically save a DVDP backup via the iTunes file transfer. And a Mac Version of DVDP would be even nicer. |

| Posted: | | | | silent bob, that is re assuring. I hope the case. But I have to ask, if the data base info itself is backed up by itunes why isnt this information available to be synched across to my ipad ? this would be one of the main beef for mac users or people with iphones and ipads and with not being able to view their collections ipad that has been formed through the iphone. |

| Posted: | | | | Itunes backs up the contents of your iPhone and not specifically the DVDP database. You could overwrite the contents of your iPad with this backup but that would overwrite what is on your iPad. Unfortunately you can't extract specific portions of an iTunes backup. It is good to have the backup to migrate from an old to a new device. It's not useful to keep contents of multiple devices in sync. |

| Posted: | | | | Hi silent bob, iTunes works very well in keeping devices in synch. I have an iPad, appletv an iphone and an itouch. iTunes is the central hub for keeping all these devices in synch for photos, movies, music. So yes can work extremely effectively in keeping contents of multiple devices in synch. The other very dissapoining thing is if you upload your collection via iPhone. There is no way of sharing That via the web either it seems as dvdprofiler users previously have been doing for years ! |
