No, polls are not Rules. And you MUST document any such changes. Making assumptions is incorrect, I doubt very seriously if you would speaking from any platform of expertise as i douibt that you have and first hand relationships with such personnel. All you would be doing is making an assumption which may or may NOT be accurate.

Someone is now trying to change Chow Yun-Fat to Yun-Fat Chow on a number of profiles. I assume the credit lookup tool is still the way to do it, and that does not currently support this change.

I just voted no to a bunch of the attempts to change Chow Yun-Fat's name.  Per the credit lookup, "Chow Yun-Fat" has 393 profiles, with "Chow Yun Fat" (no dash) another 51.  "Yun-Fat Chow" (which I've never seen him credited) has 136.  "Yun Fat Chow" has only 15.  If the user wants to change to a common name, it should be "Chow Yun-Fat".  The whole first/last name has no basis IMHO and should remain as credited (in this case, as well as most other Asian titles), which usually is family/given.

Correct, Patsa and Synner.

I have not seen any of this, YET. I hope I don't.
Any such assumptions should be voted No and use the Common Name with the lookup Tool. And provide documentation for MOST such changes.

That's NOT what you said. You said:

The fact that you are still allowed to write on this forum just tells us that you are a joke and so is the reputation system. I can write this without any fear of consequences, because if I'll get some "bad bad boy" votes, it doesn't lead anywhere. Eather Ken has double standards what comes in your behaviour, or the sanction limit must be 1000 "no" votes and this forum doesn't have enough active people to give that many votes.

I'm the one trying to fix a bunch of Chow Yun-Fat titles. (Firstname:Yun-Fat Lastname: Chow credited as Chow-Yun Fat) By the voting so far, it seems pretty much a toss up with slightly more 'no's at the moment. I'm still not sure if I should withdraw them and resubmit as Firstname: Chow Last-name: Yun-Fat which has the most entries in the db... Any feedback, any concensus..?

I still think the way I did it is the most logical correct one, it's also the way that is preferred in the poll

Any constructive (non-flaming) feedback is appreciated.

I honestly think you should go with whatever common name the lookup tool comes up with until the rules are more clear on asian names (if ever). Making rules outside the rules just makes contributing so complex and cumbersome because you have to look at forum polls, consensus etc. If we want a consistent DB, we gotta keep it simple.

I would fix all your names in your local profile so that Surname = Last name, but don't contribute them to the global database at this time.

If the Lookup Tool is considered the holy Oracle, I will withdraw my current contributions, and re-submit the DVD profiles I own containing "Yun-Fat Chow", "Yun Fat Chow" "Chow Yun Fat" "Donald Chow" etc. as "Chow Yun-Fat" (Firstname+Latname) using the Lookup Tool as argument, If that is the way most of you guys feel it should be done.

Please don't.  I looked at your profile and you have a lot of Hong Kong movies with Chow Yun Fat before he came to Hollywood.  If you want to crosslink your Chow Yun Fat so that every movie he is in shows up , fine, but please leave his name as Yun-Fat Chow in his R0,R3 Hong Kong films.  Lookup tool is not the holy grail for these movies (that's why this thread is a sticky).
