I explained that before and scooter did too. Maybe you should read the thread before posting in it. You are wasting my time if you don't read before posting. I did indeed read the whole thread before I posted, and I read it very carefully. The question remains "How many "S"'s do you see...one or two? | | | Chris |

When kids are in school, most kids are told by their parents to "obey your teachers" - "unless they tell you to do something stupid ..." The title of the movie is I believe "Nude Nuns with Big Guns". We are constantly exhorted to "follow the rules". We are also constantly exhorted "Do not invent data". The DVD cover shows one "S". Like it or not, adding another "S" is inventing data. | | | Chris | | | Last edited: by Mole |

I think the #1 rule that should override every other rule out there is to not enter bad data (though I prefer your wording ). If you feel a rule is causing you to enter bad data, you should stop and get clarification.
But is that not exactly what Yves is doing with his poll? Seeking clarification? Nope. Seeking clarification would be posting every possible permutation for people to vote on and also give them an option to pick something else if they don't care for the options you've provided. Giving people only two choices, when the vast majority of the people agree that both are wrong, is attempting to manipulate the results for your own desires. Surfeur has been around here for over 10 years. He knows how polls should be done. It's not clarification he seeks here. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Surfeur has been around here for over 10 years. He knows how polls should be done. It's not clarification he seeks here. The only missing option could be "Neither of the above. Something else". Anything else is inventing data by adding a character that does not exist on the DVD cover. Oh, and I've been around here (and Intervocative beforehand) for as long as Yves, if not longer. | | | Chris |

| Posted: | | | | There is only one S on the DVD front cover. No doubt about that. I would also like it to be "Nude Nuns with Big Guns", but that is not an option according to the rules. But you are free to use that in your local. |

The DVD cover shows one "S". Like it or not, adding another "S" is inventing data. Inventing data? That's nothing but a bad BS excuse. The "data" is on the cover (written in a way that 99% of the population understands just fine I might add), the "data" is on the spine, the "data" is in the movie itself, the "data" is in the credit block, etc. No one is "inventing" data. People are just being stubborn about using a little common sense. I don't know if it's because they don't possess the intelligence to think for themselves and are just following the party line (Read the Rules) or if they're just doing it for childish reasons. Either way, I don't care. Bad data should NEVER intentionally be entered into the database. It really is that simple. You either do your best to provide a good program and data to go with it. Or you decide to put useless data in the database that is of no use to anyone. There really isn't a choice here. You either enter the title correctly or you enter gibberish because of some rule that didn't anticipate this told you to. You either turn your brain on and use it, or you turn it off and run down the checklist of "The Rules" like some kind of robot. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Well, if you're going to be pedantic about it, I count no less that 6 S's on the front cover alone. Borrow one of those. And with that, I'm out of here. The stupidity, ignorance, trolling, stubbornness, etc. is just more than I can bear. Ya'll have fun profiling your cover art. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. You either turn your brain on and use it, or you turn it off and run down the checklist of "The Rules" like some kind of robot. Mark, I TOTALLY AGREE with you. And as far as I am concerned the title is "Nude Nuns with Big Guns" (I'm going to have to buy the d@mn thing now ). And it is bad data! No question about that. But we are frequently told the name of the movie is over-ridden by the what's on the cover. I didn't write these rules, but I am expected to follow them and put bad data into the database if that's what's on the cover. In fact in one of my submissions recently I wrote something along the lines of: "This is one of the times when we knowingly put cr@p into the database, because that's what we are obliged to do if we follow the rules". But we are constantly exhorted to "follow the rules / follow the data / do not interpret". The rule in this case says "Use the title from the front cover." ....not the spine, not the credit block, not the DVD. I don't like it any more than you do and would certainly correct it in my local. Just as I do with any other bit of "bad" data, including obvious typographical and spelling errors in overviews. | | | Chris | | | Last edited: by Mole |

| Posted: | | | | Mark, your post (not the last one, the one before that) is painful to read. "Data" as a word is plural noun meaning more than one piece of datum. Reading the singular verb "is" after the plural "data" offends an English major like me.
But the purpose of this thread has nothing to do with "Nude Nuns with Big Guns" ... it is about a contributor's whining about his hurt over "T4xi" and like any whiny obsessive person, he will pull any and every troll move to get his way. And his way is to ignore the fact he can make his own database as he wants; he needs to inflict his obsession on everyone else, and force us all to accept "Taxi 4" as the ONE TRUE TITLE in all our databases.
Let's give the whiny person what he wants and make "Taxi 4" the official online database title of "T4xi" and he will crawl back to wherever until his feelings get hurt again.
Of course this means he will crap in the punchbowl with every argument he loses, and he alone gets to be the supreme arbiter of all things in the database.
So that's why I made a silly criticism of Mark's fine post. I do not respond to trolls. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

| Posted: | | | | I think the main disagreement now is one or two "s".
One camp taking the cover art as literal text
The other realising that cover art can have artistic symbolism in the representation of the title. Sharing the "s" across two words. And in that case (at least to me) since that symbolism cannot be represented in the "Title" text field the rule kicks in to use the credit block on the back cover.
The symbolism in question is commonly used in marketing.
Artistic symbolism is also in other titles like "T4xi". But in that case it can be represented in the Title field as it is. |

edit... nevermind... I reset my system to an earlier date, and it doubled my shift off daylight savings time... my computer was an hour off... my fault. Sorry. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Maybe, or it depends on where they (or their server) is located since some states do not recognize DST and never change their clocks. Arizona (except the Navajo Indian Ieservation), Hawaii, and Alaska do not recognize DST. |

By leaving out the option that is supported by the rules???? You are kidding, aren't you? You seem to be confused. The option you are talking about ("Nude Nuns with Big Guns") is left out exactly because it is not supported by the rules. | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." |
