Do you know the v4 global replace option (pressing Ctrl before clicking the replace button). Give it a try... but keep in mind to save the currently opened profile after the global replacement...

I knew it because it was mentioned before. But I had also forgotten about it again. And since it is neither obvious nor documented, I doubt very many users know about it even amongst to major contributors.

But thanks for reminding me.

Not sure that there would be enough users that care that deeply about getting cast and crew exactly as credited that there would be sufficient demand for a cast-and-crew profile collection.

Especially since it is unclear on how a database restore actually effects the cast & crew database. It's still unclear to me when a non-birthyear actor gets merged with a birthyear actor.

Even more so that a change of a common name can destroy a precisely audited profile.

Imagine Jane Doe was credited as Jane Doe in A Wonderful Movie but a few years later she marries John Smith and takes his last name. At some point her common name becomes Jane Smith.

As long as she was Jane Doe, it was absoluetely impossible to credit her as Jane Doe [Jane Doe]. The program would simply clear out any identical "Credited As" name.

But if you change her common name to Jane Smith, she's suddenly credited as Jane Smith in A Wonderful Movie instead of Jane Smith [Jane Doe].

With backups and restores of wildly different sources and without the aide of the offline-online profile compare screen that you get when you do an update from the online database, you're bound to make your database worse instead of better.

I have sort of managed to work out a way of doing this but its not the correct way. What I do is edit the DVD and under 'Personal Information' section I scan the barcode again into the 'Location' field. This will instantly bring up the DVD in question. Trouble is I have to go back and scan everything again for this to work - Is the barcode not saved anywhere (searchable) once you search and add a title?

In the DVD menu you find "Find by UPC" or press Alt+F10. It opens a small window ready to receive a UPC number.

PS. If anyone is interested, the solution was to replace Clipboard.SetText(textstring) with Clipboard.SetDataObject(textstring).

I always use SetDataObject (object data, bool copy, int retryTimes, int retryDelay)

Isn't that Envelope?

Indeed: that's what we call an Envelope. So yeah, we have a case type for that.

Okay. I always asumed that the envelope is that flimsy paper cover with the plastic front hole.

Yeah, I have updates turned off because I heard that Microsoft was forcing an update to Windows 10 and some people had problems once that happened.

If I download that and I have computer problems I can reverse that by restoring to a restore point, right?

Yeah no prob

I downloaded it and unzipped it and opened up the folder and ran the exe program and it sat for awhile and then a pop-up came up saying the below:

"This application requires one of the following version of the .NET Framework:
.NETFramework,Version=v4.6"

I'm not computer savvy so I didn't click ok to download that.

What exactly is that and how do I check what version I have on my computer and how do I know that that version will work on my Windows 7 computer?

The .NET Framework is a set of computer program libraries that Microsoft invented back in the early 2000s. Every Windows version comes with a certain version but depending on your Windows Update settings and Microsofts internal philosophy, not every Windows always gets the newest .NET automatically.

But it is safe to install and since it is backwards-compatible, you can take the newest version which is currently 4.7.2.

Ok, if it's two different roles, then I don't see why it shouldn't be two different credits?

Because we make a carbon copy of the credits. And when said credits specify "John Doe as John Smith / Duck the Rabbit" then you only have one line for the contribution.

The content was delivered by the television media.  Sort of fitting after all.

But by that logic, you'd need a media type "cinema" because that's where most movies premiere. Only Direct-to-DVD movies would then get the DVD media type. But only if the movie wasn't from the 80s and was a Direct-to-Video release for which you'd need yet another media type.

The media type is the type of media (DVD, Blu-ray, etc) on which you bought the movie or TV show you're holding.

Don't let me stop you. I'm not overly fond of the Television genre either. But your solution is by no means better. Instead of using one ill-fitted field (genre) you use another (media type)

I never quite understood why we are limited to 3 genres for contributions even though we can enter 5 total.

For example, Star Trek: The Next Generation has just two genres in the profile. Television and Science Fiction.

Personally I could see Action and Adventure fit as well. Some may also say Classic would apply.

But if I were to add Action, Adventure and Classic to the Genres only three would go through for contribution. So Television, Science Fiction and Action would go through, leaving off Adventure and Classic.

I know it's a little thing and frankly some could care less, but I really don't see a reason to limit it to just three genres.

I would really like to see Genres expand to all 5 slots for contributions.

Television, like Classic and a few others aren't genres. Some people declare stuff as Classic that's come out two years ago.

The problem with genres can be observed on IMDb. The more genres you allow the more everything becomes every genre.

What movies don't have at least a few minutes of Action? What Thriller isn't also Crime (and vice versa?).

What Adventure is not an Action flick?

But if I have 1000 movies and I filter for Action and the result set is 897 (because, you know, Forrest Gump ran through the jungle in the film!), what good does this genre do me?
