I have been going through my collection slowly updating my cover scans, mainly to convert them to high res, but also to depict the covers I have in my collection as opposed to those in main database. Once done I shall be happier than I am now.

Just into my collection which is sorted alphabetically I come to
The Adventures of Indiana Jones: The Complete DVD Movie Collection
EAN: 5014437840035
Locality: UK
The on-line scans are that of the Front Cover and Rear Cover, but the Rear Cover has the Promotional Leaflet attached to the cover. I carefully removed my Promotional Leaflet to leave me with just the 'Outer Slipcase' as I believe Originally intended for release.

Question is if I submit this revised scan will there be too much objection because of the removal of the leaflet or should the leaflet have been removed in the first place?

Your thoughts please.

To me, these are the rear covers. I wouldn't call them 'promotional'. They are like any other back cover, except they are stuck on. Like any back cover, it states things about the movies/boxset. Lots of things have them. X-Files box sets, the Lord of the Rings Gift sets, and even some Simpsons sets.

One other thing to remember. As this is a UK release, the rating logo has to be displayed on the Front, Side and Back. Therefore if you remove this as you call it 'promotional leaflet' does the back cover have a BBFC rating logo? If not, then it clearly isn't what was intended to be the back cover.

When making boxes, its usually easier not to print lots on it and just do a simple thing that can be stuck on.

It would be interesting to see what you have there. I've not got this version in my collection. But my Canadian version is the same and appears to just have a blank back without it (I've not removed it and by blank I mean coloured the same as the rest of the box).

I do not think that it is any "promotional" leaflet as you state. The information on the leaflet is what is normally provided on back covers (rating, features). Therefore I'd say that this leaflet should stay in the image.

The nearest example that I have been able to find in the on-line database for the rear cover is that of the Canadian contribution 097360507287.

@Jykke
yes the 'promotional leatlet has the same information printed on the actual box itself all-be-it on the underside.

But if the concensus is for the on-line to remain as-is, I will lock down my local and keep it too myself, just wasn't 100 percent on the standing for this, as other times people have rejected scans because of stickers etc.

If I understand you correctly this "Leaflet" is what you would normally expect to find on the back of a DVD case.  But instead is removeable, in most cases if you remove this "leaflet" your basically left with a blank back cover.  In those sisuations this needs to be scaned as part of the back cover since that is how the Box Set came.

The thing that is normally safe not to scan or remove from the cover images are promotional stickers which are usally attached to the slip cover or shrink wrap.

I checked on a profile that was debated heavily even before it's release:  R1.012569819122 The Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, which clearly show the loose sheet instead of the tin for the back cover.

Also the Lord of the Rings Special Extended Editions:  R1.794043554926 / R1.794043650420 / 794043693229 -- all show the loose cover for the back instead of the actual slipcase.

Those are 4 releatively important profiles, and since they all do the same thing, I think we can be pretty sure that for the back cover we scan the loose card/sheet if the slipcase back is (mostly) blank. (The LotR boxes have a small New Line logo at the bottom.)

Also of note are the Walt Disney Treasures in R1 and all seasons of Buffy and Angel in R2. It's not a promotional leaflet at all, it's the back cover.

Leaflets are one thing.  But what bugs me are scans of covers with stickers on them, such as "Special 2 disc edition" and so forth...

Well it looks like the concensus is leave the on-line as is.
I will do so, and lock down my own version.

Steve:

Here is your test, how did you see it at the store or when you got it in the mail. The graphic cover was right there under the shrink wrap. Why do they do that, who knows, I think they should be executed.
