Circuit City was in a franchise war with Best Buy for years during most of the 90's, trying to win the biggest market share for consumer electronics megastores. Best Buy say the folly of continuing that and backed off, and left Circuit City holding the bag. Now they're seriously over-extended. The Best Buy in my area is always busy, but CC is seldom that way. | | | John

| | Posted: | | | | Same thing happened to CompUSA. They closed all but one branch in Washington and now I have to drive 30 minutes (on a good day) to south Seattle to visit the nearest Fry's Electronics (a geeks wet dream that store is) in order to get stuff not sold at BB or CC. |

Thought their press conference was today!!! Microsoft's press conference was last night from 11:20 to about 1am eastern time. I was not that impressed with anything they showed. It was surprisingly boring. Nintendo's press conference was this afternoon from 12 to about 1:30, it was better than Microsoft's, lots of announcements. Sony's press conferenmce was last from about 3:15 to about 4. The best of the bunch. I was surprised that they had the best one. I did not expect much, but that Killzone 2 real time footage was just jaw dropping. They also showed what was to come next year as well. Also announced several new exclusives. | | Posted: | | | | I believe the PS3 has the greatest staying power, since it is the most powerful console!!! However that having been said, Nintendo is clearly proving that "most powerful" doesn't neccesarily mean squat, perhaps affordability and diversity are more important in the end!!!
Despite XBOX 360s overall lead in units sold (they were first afterall) and Nintendo's incredible sales both in Japan and the US, both Microsoft and Nintendo have stumbled and bumbled their way through this race so far to give SONY just enough of a slim chance to catch up.
Microsoft's surprising lack of a price cut in leui of SONY's recent cuts might just be because they will be taking a Billion Dollar hit with all the critical failure replacements. This is disappointing because I truly felt the price cut combined with the recent announcement of the extended warranties and replacement plan would seriously do wonders to win back the publics trust in the end. Clearly Microsoft is betting that the popularity of some of their upcoming software releases (ie. HALO 3...) will be more than enough to win over new buyers this coming up holiday season.
Nintendo's only big blunder has been lack of consoles on the market...still!!! Hopefully they correct this soon, but as of yet I still am not ready to buy into all the hype of this machine. I figure even with its low price, I will still probably buy the other 2 consoles first and add the Wii later simply for its cheap tag!!! | | | | My Collection!!! | | | | Last edited: by Calidain |
