One of my biggest disappointments in the "Special Edition" version of Close Encounters was the elimination of many of the scenes where Neary tears apart the plants surrounding his home in his madness to create the huge mud sculpture in his living room. With the original theatrical cut, you understand completely why his wife takes the children and escapes as fast as she can. When these scenes were edited down, the emotional impact of the breakup of the family was weakened considerably.

It will be nice to see the original version on home video.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Cliff

I don't trust Sony Pictures Home Entertainment ..,, a lot of their re-releases are in Pan and Scan.

I'm still waiting for my 20th anniversary DTS anamorphic copy of Annie to be released in Widescreen Letterbox...

This one will be released on Blu-ray as well, making it the first Spielberg title released in high definition, I believe. It's one of my favourite science fiction films of all time (at least equal to or even better than the original Star Wars), so I guess the space above my HD DVD player is now reserved for a Blu-ray player as well...

I probably make more than you do, smart &*^. I make enough  so tha I can spend about $7000 per year on DVDs, plus keep gas in the car for both myself and my wife, and have enough left over to a 60" Plasma Screen AND a NEW Computer system next spring. All that WITHOUT having to touch a nickel of my retirement nest egg, which could buy you entire DVD library several million times.

Yeah I said million
