Personally I would call it Die Hard 2 (and read "Die Harder" as a tagline), but I seem to be in the minority doing so.... Add it as Berak says. #3 is "Die Hard: With a Vengeance" and the new one that just came out is "Live Free: Die Hard" or something very like that, so there is precedent at least in this series to include the subtitle stuff. | | | John

| | Posted: | | | | Utilizing DanW's method of determining correct title taken from "The Birds" thread, we can look at the back packaging marquee credits to get the official title. On my region 1 special edition, it's listed as simply "Die Hard 2." Considering that title matches the film credits title exactly, I'm not really sure what the controversy could be. I don't think "Die Harder" appears anywhere in the actual film, which would really be a stretch for any justification that anyone would use. Perhaps it popped up at the end? It's been a while since I've seen it.
Forget that, just checked. It doesn't even appear that way in the end credits, just simply "Die Hard 2." |

| | Posted: | | | | Whoops, just saw Rifter's post. Checked the marquee credits on the 3rd one and it is simply called "Die Hard With A Vengeance." There's actually never any mention of the number 3 and no colon. I think we all add the 3 in our heads to keep it straight but it isn't actually there. I haven't seen the 4th one yet. A precedent can't be set by something that comes later.  If "Die Harder" is not in the film credits than it is not part of the title and should not be included. I don't think that the modified title rule is appropriate - "Die Harder" is not something that came later to modify the title for a DVD release - it was there from the films release. | | | Andy

| | Posted: | | | | I just previewed all the Die Hard 2s for region 1 listed in "Add by Title" and they all say "Die Hard 2: Die Harder" and all the images have "Die Harder" on them. I checked my copy which is Spotlight series and both the slipcover and the keepcase which are different pictures have Die Harder on them. It's even on the DVD label. So I am guessing that the contributers are not getting the info from where they are suppose to...the film's credits. which I checked on my version and it is just Die Hard 2. So I would agree the title is "Die Hard 2"
My profile also has Die Hard 2 as the "original title"
