Peter Jackson's "King King" is Wingnut; does that make it New Zealand?

Seriously though...YES.  Peter Jackson is Kiwi.  His production company WingNut Films is Kiwi.  WingNut Films produced King Kong.  Therefore CoO is New Zealand.

I've contributed the Gift sets with NZ as the CoO!
Let's see who dares to happy funtime with me about it

No, it has to be The Middle-Earth, as credited.

We all know that Wingnut is in New Zeland and New Line is in the US.  Why not add a field to the studio master that contains the country in which that studio is located.  Then whenever a studio is added the coo could be automatically populated.  This would give us 3 COOs and the flip flopping would be limited to the studios.

Here I am trying to bring this thread back from the grave, mostly because I don't think this issue has been resolved and unless my eyes deceive me, I don't see anything regarding this in the rules, so I went with this discussion.

Further, I was about to submit a contribution for Angela's Ashes with its CoO as United States, until I realize this film has three production companies involved:

Scott Rudin Productions, based in Hollywood and New York
David Brown Productions, based in New York
Dirty Hands Productions, based in London

My logic and Boykin's last comment tell me we truly need 3 fields for country of origin at the very least, especially with the countless co-productions that abound. A single field doesn't really cut it, since it comes off as completely unrealistic. This would be clearly UK/US.

Anyway, I could go with:

a) United States, since there are more US companies involved than the single UK one

b) United Kingdom, since Dirty Hands is director's Alan Parker own company, apparently in charge of all preproduction and liaisons with Frank McCourt, who authored the book the film is based on.

c) Not to contribute at this time and wait for this issue to be resolved.

So, which is it? Any thoughts?

Final report of the Invelos thread re-animator, third officer reporting. The other members of the discussion are, apparently, dead. Comments and posts destroyed. I should reach the frontier in about six weeks. With a little luck, Ken & Gerri will pick me up. This is Sailor Ripley, last survivor of the discussion, signing off.
Funny, these cookies don't taste anything like Girl Scouts.

Thanks for re-animating this thread! It's definitely a problem!

I personally tend to option c) at the moment, until we have three (or more?) fields for the CoO (and more than three for the studios, perhaps a separate field for the DVD label?). Otherwise we have endless discussions about the real CoO or recurring re-contributions.

I hope there will be soon a solution.

I agree, one option is just too limiting.
I've not been submitting any CoOs where there's some question about which one to use, and I've been voting neutral on those that others have submitted unless it's obvious too.

I tend to agree, that we should leave the country of origin field empty, if production companies from more than one country are involved, until there is a technical solution implemented to correctly profile international co-productions.

EDIT: I used to favour the country of the first credited production country. But this is just asking for troubles.

Another problem comes up with the new rule, that you have to give sources...

Today, I uploaded nearly 90 profiles, where I added the CoO. Now, some #§*%&s voted for a "No", because I have not given a "Source" for the information.

I understand it when there are such arguable movies as for example "Dance of the Vampires", that was produced by the US and UK according to imdb.

But some people ask for sources for such obvious movies like "Kalifornia", "Dead Alive", "Bride of Re-Animator", ...

I hope those people who voted "No" read this to let them know how stupid this is...
