I bought the old 80's mini series The Winds of War from amazon.de but to my surprise it seems to be an edited version. Compare the German edition...

Part 1: 1:48.39
Part 2: 2:01.11
Part 3: 1:17.10
Part 4: 1:25.37
Part 5: 1:26.54
Part 6: 2:00.52
Part 7: 2:04.54

Total: 12:05.17

with the American edition (according to DVD Profiler)
Part 1: 2:28
Part 2: 2:25
Part 3-4: 3:14
Part 5: 1:36
Part 6: 2:26
Part 7: 2:28

Total 14:39

Even if you take a possible 4% PAL speedup into account, over two hours are missing! Any ideas what could have been edited out?

As far as could gather now from a German DVD forum, it seems, that the basis for the DVD release was the cut which was aired on German TV at the time. And this one is said to be heavily cut.
