I wanted to contribute a DVD profile for "WWE - Ric Flair & The Four Horseman".

It was declined with the following reason:
"An invalid source, such as a third party database, was listed in the contribution notes. Use of a third party database is not allowed per the contribution rules."

During contribution the following is stated:
"For all contributions, indicate the source of the data, especially cast and crew additions."

My sources were:
amazon.co.uk (prize, release date)
wikipedia (cast names) - I double checked that I spelled them correctly.

So what is a valid source then? I am not allowed to use a third party source, but have to indicate some source? - I'm confused. Btw: I did not find that "third party" sentence in the contribution rules.

Can someone please help me understand how I can make this contribution correctly?

Thanks,
Daniel

The ONLY source that is allowed for CAST and CREW is the "DVD" Itself. No if's, But's or Whyfore's.
Just put the DVD into your computers DVD drive with the software player that came with it and play the DVD listing the cast / crew as you come to them. easy once your used to it. I would re-contribute stating that that is where they came from unless you verify it cos if somebody else checks and points out not from DVD it could get you into trouble (ie banned).

so you know... it is mentioned in the rules in the introduction page (first page)...

Rules Quote:
Quote:
The authoritative source for information submitted should be the DVD itself. Please don't submit content from a third party database, and always verify the specifications printed on the cover.  In both cases, errors abound, so always verify the information directly from the DVD whenever possible.

And yes... all cast/crew must come from the DVD itself.

That's ok, to use amazon for price and release date as those are the only 2 things (i think) that aren't on the dvd or dvd cover.  It doesn't hurt to have a second online store to confirm it, but amazon can be used to confirm SRP.

You were turned down for using Wikipedia, which as was mentioned before me, is a 3rd party database.

In my experience Amazon isn't a reliable source for any kind data....

And if there are no credits? (Wrestlers are uncredited - that's what i specified for all of the cast)
I know their gimmicks / wrestling names and I look up their real name on onlineworldofwrestling.com and double-check it with wikipedia.
That means, my "source" is - well - me.. right?
Or should i omit the cast all together, since there are no credits?

Thanks for clarification,
Daniel

From what i gather from what i have seen from others, most of the Wrestlers are credited during the "show" as they are interviewed or whatever. There is not a "CAST" list as such. But the source still has to be the DVD.

I think i got it, then it was my misunderstanding of "source" that has been the cause of the failed contribution.
The wrestler's names are shown on screen during the show and oftentimes the matches (the participants) are listed on the back of the DVD. The real names are not used non the less.
I'll try to resubmit (without quoting wikipedia as a source - since it was not the source to identify the cast itself but just to double-check the names of the separate wrestlers/actors)

Thanks,
Daniel

Skip has it half right.  If there are not credits, then you are allowed to use other sources to get them...that is spelled out in the rules.  If you didn't explain that there were no credits on the dvd, there is no way for the screeners to know.

Unicus:

If you are going to cite the rules, at least do so correctly. The ONLY exception to third party datsources is in regards to films that do not CONTAIN Roles.

"If an actor is credited by name but does not have an associated role, you may use another source to identify the role. In each case, list Actor’s names and roles (when given) exactly as they are in the credits and in exactly the same order credited."

It does NOT in ANY case allow for third party data souces to be used to supply actor's names.

Um...that would be UNCREDITED...which the rules 100% allow for.  Come on, that was way to easy.

Lte's see unicus, since wrestling is handled much in the same way as in other venues, including. An interview with The Rock, with The Rock listed under his image, while it is not a traditional film type of credit, i would hardly call it (uncredited).

Neither are they credited as described in the rules.  To be clear, captions under an interview are not covered at all.
