Just contributed my first DVD profile since it didn’t exist yet (Darkman Trilogy).  I hope the images are ok (50x700 72dpi) and info is ok.  I scanned the DVD case not the cardboard box – as the backs were different, but the DVD case paper had more color, and the cardboard box gets tossed if possible anyways.

This was a non-standard DVD to work with as my first contribution though, as it had 3 movies as one title.  Many ways to handle it, but I couldn’t add 3 discs and then add to parent of box, as it doesn’t upload that way (I don’t think), and besides 2 movies were on 1 disc.  If all movies were: 1 Movie – 1 disc – 1 case, this program would be easier, but that’s not the way it is.  I tried adding dividers to the crew and cast sections to update per movie, but the “Assign” button only assigns to the last section, not the currently selected section (a work around is to order the one your updating to the bottom and then reorder after updating.)  I just updated with info on the DVD itself, so no cast movie names included.

Just kinda curious if it was done ok (besides the 3 movie deal), and I guess I was hoping that the tricky issue over how to manage multipacks gets an updating for release 4 ?.  Several issues with it, and maybe there is a way to do some of these things now (handling multiDVD cases becoming important as more and more are being released), like how to get a count of actual DVD’s owned (2 in this darkman with 3 movies, 4 in simpsons season 1 with 22 episodes, 3 in LoTR’s with 1 movies, 1 in Bladerunner with 1 movie, etc…), count of actual movies owned (block tv shows?, count each episode as 1?).  Program prints out here’s what I have, but for some reason we are always asked, “How many movies do you have?  How many dvd’s do you have?”  And we cant answer that with this program.  You would think all reports print out information close to real values – but its not, it gives a feel of magnitude is all.  I have a count of 1 for each Lethal Weapon 1-4, Alien 1-4, Back to the Future 1-3 (giving false low count), but I also have several boxes counted as disc to provide a location to the parent, and added discs for children entries of each movie in box (esp, with themed boxes, like entry of George Clooney box and entries for each movie like Solaris, etc, or entry for Bruce Lee box and added movies - each giving a false high count.)  Anyway, just some thoughts on the subject and hoping a spreadsheet capability comes into play someday – hate going 1 by 1 to update 800 dvd’s to location movie (splitting out locations of TV and unlive.)

Also I think Location field is being handled for owners of the 100 or 500 carousel users.  I would think a lot of people don’t store them that way, with enough not doing it that way that using Location for where you store the dvd  (container and dvd together) would be a nice feature.  I try to use location as storing DVD (dvd and case) with a pseudo-db “Grouped-By” capability, i.e. Movies alpha, TV alpha, Unlive alpha.  Another way that I could see as nice is Tom’sRoom alpha (or even LivingRoom Shelf1 alpha), but your system isn’t geared for that – it can sorta support it, but its not geared for that.

Sounds like quite a complicated one to pick for your first contribution!
Unfortunately as it's a new submission, I don't think anyone else can look at it until it's been accepted - though I may be wrong about that.
Reading about the set online, here's what I think you should have:
1 profile created by using the UPC - this is the parent profile of the boxset and will only hold minimal information. It's title would be Darkman Trilogy.
1 profile created by using the disc ID of disc 1 - this will hold the information for Darkman and Darkman II (using dividers for cast & crew)
1 profile created by using the disc ID of disc 2 - this will hold the information for Darkman III

It would be a lot easier if each movie could have it's own profile, and I think there are plans to be able to allow that eventually.

One thing that confused me is that you say you scanned the case, not the box. I'm guessing by this that the discs each have their own case, packaged together inside a sleeve. If that's the case then the parent profile has to include scans of the box, not the case. The disc profiles can have scans of the cases, but not the parent profile.

Also, you noted that when entering cast & crew the name always went to the bottom of the list. I don't know if you noticed or not, but there are green arrows just to the right that allow you to move the names up and down the list.

Is the first mvoie a special edition in this set? Any extras at all?
I heard rumors of a possible director's cut of part 1, but looking at online sites it looks like it only got an audio upgrade and nothing else new.

re: bigdadyhorse: I checked the DVD and did not find any extra's from the main menu for Darkman.

re: northbloke: the case is a 2 dvd/3 movie keepcase and cardboard slipcased.  I scanned the Keepcase paper that slides inside the plastic.  Their are many varitions on keepcases now this one has 1 dvd on the backside, and 1 dvd in an extra plastic liner that swings on the hinge.  I have also seen a dual dvd in a keepcase with both dvd's on the back side of the case, and 4 dvd's with 2 on the backside and 2 on the middle panel (Beauty and Beast Season 1, all 4 discs in a single keepcase width!!! almost worth buying just because its so compact.)

A supporting notion why the keepcase should be the parent of the dvd's is that the keepcase and cardboard box have the same UPC code on them.  I did not do the cast&crew per disc as you mentioned, dat wouda been bedder. oh well. :-)
