| Posted: | | | | This happens a lot: I'm adding a new DVD and I get multiple hits on the UPC. Usually there are listed for different countries, but none are the one I have. I might have Norwegian, but it only lists for example Netherland and Germany.
In the help it says:
"If there are multiple matching profiles, DVD Profiler will display a list of all matches. Select the most appropriate match."
But none are "most appropriate", all are wrong! And I have been looking everywhere on the screen, but there is no place ti add another country version.
Why is it like this, or what am I missing? This is very frustrating. I got several wrong titles and cover images in my database because of this. |

| Posted: | | | | You need to pick the best one you can find. Or better yet, create a new profile that matches what you have, then upload it so it's there for the next person. You can even use one of the existing profiles to get you started and change the locality on it. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. The problem is that in your region/country, too few people contribute, probably because there are not so many users, and also because the rules are too complicated or people do not agree with them. So you have to edit an existing one, as Mark says, and contribute for others if you have followed the contributions rules. If not, you keep your profile on local, but other people will have the same problem as you. | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | It is still not intuitive IMHO. There should at least be an option there to copy and create your own version, like you can create a new record if there is no match on the UPC. It gives the impression now that one can not add if the UPC is already there, and it is unclear when you edit a record if you create a new or suggest editing the master record.
What if I choose the Dutch one and then later go in and edit "Country of origin" to Norway, is then a new record created when I upload it? What if I was wrong and change it again tomorrow, is yet another record created? And if I change the scanned image, is then a third record created? A logical step would be an option to copy the Dutch record and then be asked to change it as part of the process to add new DVD's to your collection. Again, you can add records when there is no match on the UPC.
I love the program, but some places my brain and it works very differently... |

| Posted: | | | | No, not "Country of Origin", CoO is related to the production of the movie, not the selling place of the DVD.
What you want to do: If there is no norwegian profile for that disc, you take one where you have the least editing to to (e.g. the dutch)
After you have chosen that profile and downloaded it, you select it and go to the menu DVD->Change Locality.
Then you change the cover and other non-matching stuff like audio tracks and subtitles and then you contribute it.
Now there is a norwegian profile for that UPC. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | You know, perhaps there does need to be a way to streamline it, like an option that when downloading prompts for a locale/region/UPC change. It would cause a little less confusion I think if Implemented properly. |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks DJ Doena, but it should be easier than that. I've been trying to figure this out for some time to avoid coming here to ask stupid questions. I expect others too might appreciate a better way for this to be implemented. Just the fact that I have to change locality and not country did definitely not strike me in the face either... |

| Posted: | | | | You have to remember that this is a user database. If there aren't many users in the country you're in - then you are much less likely to find the DVDs you need. Therefore you have to look for other profiles you can adapt to suit your need, or create one of your own. |

| Posted: | | | | But that's not the problem, as you see from my post, it's that the program isn't presenting this in a very good way. |

| Posted: | | | | It should not be "easy as that"
If it is to difficult to change the locality or UPC/EAN as it is now, I am afraid that the rest of the changes needed also are to difficult, and we will get several contributions with no change at all but the locality. | | | We are all at the same age, only at different time... |

| Posted: | | | | To me it is simpler (and simple often means best):
- You register an UPC and it is not in the db so you are allowed to create it. - You register an UPC, but others from other countries have beat you to it, so you are asked to either pick one (if correct) or create a new locality.
That is simple and it is intuitive.
Why there is a hostility against being allowed to create a new locality at the point where you actually insert your new DVD's is beyond me. But I'm just a simple user... | | | Last edited: by spirous |

| Posted: | | | | Spirous, because locality has nothing to do with where you put in your DVD, it is the locality in which that particular title is supposed to be. For example, I can cross our northern border and buy a title in Canada, assuming it is a Region 1, Canada Locality title, my taking it back to my home in the states does NOT make it a Region 1 USA title, it is still Canadian. I hope that helps your seeming confusion.

Why there is a hostility against being allowed to create a new locality at the point where you actually insert your new DVD's is beyond me. But I'm just a simple user... There isn't any "hostility". There are other oppinions on what is the best approach, or what is the most important things to spend time on approving in DVD Profiler. As a new user you focus more on how to use it, while experienced users think about what it can do and prefer having development time spend on improving the features (from a functional perspective) over a change that can at best save a few seconds in a task (adding a new locality) that will take several minutes anyway. You should also notice that one of the reasons your solution appears so simple and intuitive is because it leaves out an extremely time saving and important step: The selection of the existing locality to copy the initial data from. No one sane (and about 10% of users of this forum are sane ) would enter a profile from scratch. Personally I think the best approach here is simply updating the help, because it clearly isn't good enough if it really only contains: "If there are multiple matching profiles, DVD Profiler will display a list of all matches. Select the most appropriate match."I do not have DVD Profiler installed here, so I can't check what else it includes, but it obciously should go on instructing people to: 1) Change the locality 2) Update the relevant fields optionally: 3) Verify all fields match the current DVD according to the rules 4) Contribute the profile. Unfortunately DVD Profiler doesn't have a Wiki based help so nothing we can do about it. | | | Regards Lars |
