Proxy ignored?

I'm using 3.1.1.1171 and trying to connect to Invelos from behind the corporate firewall for the first time.

I have 2 proxies available: a) directly via the corporate firewall/proxy b) indirectly via a SOCKS proxy on my local machine.

Neither is working from inside DVD Profiler and in particular, my local proxy which logs every connection, no connection attempt is made by DVD Profiler. I've tried with and without the alternate connection method.

Any ideas?

How is your web browser configured?

If you use IE, go into Tools -> Internet Options and go to the "Connections" tab.  Click on "LAN Settings" and see how your Proxy is configuered in there.

Otherwise, if your company has their firewall locked down pretty tight, it may be blocking a port that DVDP uses.  I couldn't find any documentation anywhere at to which ports are used in the software, though.

IE uses the corporate firewall/proxy - which is locked down pretty tight. Authenticated access, no port redirection, no internet access except via the proxy.

Hence the need, sometimes, for the local SOCKS proxy which is actually HTTP Tunnel and allows me to make those type of connections

I have some problems with the proxy configuration, too.

Everything is set correctly (proxy server, proxy login, password) and the download when adding new DVDs works fine.

What does not work is contributing and up/downloading. It tries to connect but it doesn't work.

What I didn't try was to refresh profiles from the online database.

Try selecting "Use alternate internet connection method" in Options / Online. Also select use a proxy server. Fill out the proxy server address and port (this is often 8080), and if required fillout your login and password of your corporate network. If your company uses a windows domain use
domain-name\user-name for the username.

Back at work and finally got the connection working, but not with the settings I would expect it to work.

Alternate Internet Connection is checked and Proxy is unchecked.

It must be using IE's connection settings as there is no way through the firewall without the proxy. I still think there is a bug in the internal proxy settings as mentioned in my first post.

Yes, that seems to be what it is doing.  I have my home network locked down tight - and I can see my firewall logging the attempts to talk directly to the invelos webserver rather than use the proxy.  But if I set the proxy in internet explorer, dvdprofiler does the right thing.

FWIW, that's not a workable solution for me.  I explicitly leave IE's proxy configuration blank to prevent Windows from calling home (and/or any undetected viruses, etc).  I use firefox which keeps its own independent proxy information.
