I was trying to enter American Dreams: Season One into the DB.  It is an outer cover with two digipacks inside.  One has disc 1-4.  The other has 5-7.  How shoudl this be entered?  Alias is the same way, but the cases are entered with the DISC ID ala version 2 and the discs with the new disc ID.  I don't think there's any way to get the old disc ID in anymore.

I could just enter the two packages and list all the disc son the two, or I could eneter all seven discs separately and just enter the cover art as the digipak in which that disc is found.  Or is there a third way?

I agree with Skip on this one, Ace.  Seems the most sensible way to do it.

I'd use the second choice because if you were to use the first one you'd need an Id and that would most probably be the DiscId of the first disc of each DigiPak. But then you'd have run out of Ids for the disc profile for that first disc.

To be specific this is the part of his second option I was picking up on.

"or I could eneter all seven discs separately and just enter the cover art as the digipak in which that disc is found."

That IS what I would do as it is c0onsistent with the way I handle any TV Series, DISC LEVEL profiles.

I agree... except for the part about using the digipak for the coverart... the cover art should be the same as the parent profile if there isn't individual packaging or 2 disc per case keep cases. I would not use digipak panels for the cover art. If I am reading it right and that is what they are meaning.

I don't want to use individual panels.  The discs are broken up into two digipacks.  I wants to use the front and back of the one thta holds 1-4 for 1-4 and the front and back of the one that hold 5-7 for 5-7.

In terms of your local database, you can have whichever scan you like.
In terms of the online database, it's a bit of a grey area. Some people interpret the front and back of digipaks as covers and use them for child profiles, others don't and use the front and back of the slipcase instead. You can try submitting them to the online database, but be prepared for possible 'no' votes.
Although had the cases been thinpaks or keepcases instead of digipacks, then the scans would definitely be allowed. That does lend weight to your idea of using scans of the front and back of the digipak.

Alias, Family Guy, etc all have scans of the indvidual packaging for the discs.  I don't see how this is any different.

You may have missed my post just above.
Some people interpret digipaks differently in terms of packaging to the others because they normally don't follow the traditional 'front, back, open like a book' style of packaging.
It's difficult to say whether your scans would follow the rules or not. All I can suggest is to submit them and see what the reaction is by the voters.

That's not quite right Skip.

All the rules say is "If a disc, or set of discs, have their own case, use the cover images from that case."

In this situation, the case is a digipak. So if the digipak has a front and back, then the scans are valid.

Front and back of the digipak are whatever is front and back when it's folded up, I'd say.  I think northbloke is correct on this.

I don't know from intent, but that is exactly how I read the rule.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.
