Once I managed to get a great scan of Born on the 4th of July norwegian version by using a clear plasticbag over the cover. The text on the cover is silver, and it was very reflective before I came up with the plastic idea. However I tried the same method on Young Guns blu-ray with a different result. The silver on top and bottom got bright white, and the white UPC got somehow pink   does anybody out there have a suggestion on how to make the perfect scan when many of the blu-ray movies has the silver top and bottom... My scanner is a Packard Bell 1200. My latest trick was to put a glassframe on the scanner itself, and placed the cover on top with the result that the scan got distorted, and now I'm out of ideas...

Were you using a clear plastic bag? If yes, then try to use a "laminator pouch", which looks somewhat "milky". Don't worry about the milkyness (lacking a better word), if you adjust the white and black levels while scanning the image should still come out alright.

Yes, a clear plasticbag, but hard to make it wrinkle free. A laminator pouch would be better though. we have some at work, so I'm gonna try that and try adjusting the black and white levels too

When I scanned the Buffy & Angel covers (UK locality, e.g.  5-039036-018579, 5-039036-018647) I had the problem that all silver parts of the cover were blackish.

Then I rotated the cover on the scanner by 90° and scanned it again - et voilà, it worked.

But it doesn't work all the time. I still haven't been able to get a decent scan of the german Transformers slipcover.

I've the same problem with the silver edition of the stargate series (e.g. RC2, EAN/UPC 4-045167-005464). No clue how to make an acceptable scan

I haven't understood exactly what you did, but you did great. May I give you a retroactive green arrow for that?

Instead of scanning it this way (how I usually do it):

(imagine the white as the scanner and the black as the front cover)

I scanned it this way

and then rotated it with an image program.

Yes, it all depends in which direction the cover reflects the light of the scanner.
