I am very new to Profiler so am hoping someone has come across this before.
I have a number of boxsets in my collection and want to generate a basic list off all titles in Production Year order. I only want to display the contents and not the boxsets themselves, however no DVD's that for part of a boxset will sort correctly by their own Production Year.

Does anyone know how this can be done without removing DVD's from a boxset?

Thanks

there are 2 ways I can think of to accomplish what I believe you are asking.

the first way, which is how i would do it, would be to set up tags (check out this recent topic it's in regards to genre, but it covers adding/using tags adequatly, probably a few other topics out there too)

What you would do is set up a tag for 'box set parent' (or 'box set child') Then you would filter your collection so only titles that don't have the 'box set parent' tag (or only titles that have the  'box set child' tag) are shown. You can then filter it by production year and the box set will not affect this.

the other way, that I believe I saw someone mention they did, is if you are not using the ordered and\or wish list tab you can move the parent box set profile to one of those tabs, then when you view your collection under the 'All' tab it will show the box sets with children under them, if you just view your owned, it will not have the parents.

The advantages (in my opinion) to the first way is you don't loose use of ordered and wishlist for titles you ordered or want. You can also save the filter set (though tags don't keep the and/or setting when saving the filter) for easy loading later.

This is what you could do:

1. Create a TAG for TV Series (Tools -> Edit Tags -> Add Tag)

2. Flag all the individual profiles you want (I'm assuming the child profiles from the box sets)

3. Apply the TV Series TAG to all those flagged profiles at one time (Collection -> Flagged -> Edit Tags -> check the TV Series TAG -> Click OK)

4. Remember to add this tag to all your new TV series when you are adding them.  Located in the Personalize menu

5. Now, to be able to sort then, you have to filter them first.  (Filters -> Select TAG tab at the top -> click on your TV Series TAG until it is a check mark)

6. Return to your collection... Now the only DVDs showing up are the filtered ones.  To sort by production year right click on one of the column headers and then click View Columns -> Production Year, then click on the newly showing Production Year column header to sort ascending or descending.

7. Enjoy!!

EDIT: just a bit faster than me Agrare... nice going!    to you
