Opinions on a credit before I contribute, or don't contribute, depending on the results...

I have come a cross a credit that I am not sure how to deal with.  This is for 'I Am Legend'.

Here are the credits:

  • Screenplay by Mark Protosevich and Akiva Goldsman

  • Based on the Screenplay by John William & Joyce H. Corrington

  • Based on the novel by Richard Matheson

  • The first is, obviously, a Screenwriter credit.
The third is, obviously, an OMB credit.
My question is on the second.  The words 'based on' tell me that it should be an OMB credit, but I want to be sure.  Opinions please.

I agree with OMB for the "based on Screenplay by..." credit.

I agree. The movie in question is based on both the previous screenplay and the novel, so both the second and the third credit should be entered as OMB.

came to the same conclusion "based on Screenplay" is one of the sources so OMB
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

OMB sounds like the answer to me, too.

If something is based on a car, it means it isn't one or else they would have called it a car.

My first thought was "Screenwriter", but Martin had a point with his comparison which convinced me.

    So: OMB should be correct
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Not necessarily.  Just like the writing credits are closely related, Screenwriter & OMB (writers) cars & trucks are closely related too (vehicles)

Thanks for the replies.  I will submit with the OMB credit...current has them listed as 'screenwriters'.
