I noticed the rules display a contradiction which I do not understand:

Quoting Rules Overviews & Easter Eggs:
Quote:
Overviews should match the back of the DVD case exactly, including capitalization of words exactly as it is shown on the back of the case.

Quoting Rules Contribution Notes:
Quote:
You are making a subtle change that may be hard to spot - for example spelling correction to the overview.

Does this mean we need to match the text exactly and correct the spelling afterwards?

AGAIN!!! QWhat is this now a bi-monythly poll, Martin. We just did this? You see a contradiction, I see something entirely different you can and should correct user typos and they can be hard to spot. THEREFORE...<shakes heads>

I think we are supposed to correct spelling errors caused by incorrect transcription, so to match the Overview on the case, but we are not supposed to change the original text, not even to "correct" it.

Yes, we did. But I think the lines of the rules I mentioned shines a new light on the discussion and maybe users will change their opinion because of this.

This new 'find' does not tilt the balance at all for me Martin, I am happy with the current way overviews are handled.

Perhaps it is an oversight, did you consider checking with Geri/Ken first before introducing a poll in the forums?

Neither of your poll answers is correct.

We can correct spelling errors that were introduced by users who did not copy the Overview exactly.

We cannot correct spelling errors that actually appear in the Overview on the back cover of the DVD.

I have to agree that you seem to be trying to find a problem that does not exist.

Agreed with Enry, Hal and Skip.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

No they aren't, now you are squirming to create a prolem where no prolem exists.

Is prolem a spelling error or a typo. And how do you KNOW which it is.

Speling ("Misspellings may be due to either typos (e.g. typing teh for the), or lack of knowledge of the correct spelling.")

Topy ("A typographical error or typo is a mistake made during, originally, the manual type-setting (typography) of printed material, or more recently, the typing process.")

Sorry, I have to agree with the others here: I see no contradiction in the rule parts you cited.

Whether I like or dislike the recent excesses of "exact" (line end hypens, dash lengths, etc.) is an entirely different matter.

EDIT:
It seems I didn't get the joke the first time around. And I'm still not sure if it was one. Now *I* am confused.

Fine.  For our purposes, spelling corrections refer to errors made by users when copying the Overview.

They do not refer to spelling errors intorduced by the distributor.

I see no mention of "typos" in the Rules.

This is just palin silly.
