I was thrilled when I saw that Chippyphillip had contributed episode casts for the entire run of The West Wing -- because I didn't want to do them myself.  But Chippyphillip didn't do the same thing for the Crew list, so I thought I could contribute that.

I noticed that two of the actors in Chippyphillip's cast list for one of the episodes in Season 7 didn't have any character names.  So, I popped my disc in and thought I would only have to find the names for those two actors.  To my disappointment, I found that Chippyphillip had not done a complete or accurate job of transcribing the cast from the episode credits.

The Principal Cast of The West Wing is only shown in the Opening Credits.  BUT, and this is a big but for me, some of that principal cast isn't credited in every episode.  Chippyphillips seems to have caught the fact that Stockard Channing isn't credited in every episode, but he missed that Dule Hill, Joshua Malina, Mary McCormack, Janel Moloney and Richard Schiff aren't credited in every episode, only the ones in which their character appears.

Also, the cast list is not in the order credited, as called for in the Rules.  Some of the cast Chippyphillips shows aren't in the episode he shows them -- and some cast members ARE credited but not in Chippy's list.

I just uploaded the CORRECT cast list for Season 7 of The West Wing and also the crew list.  Oddly, the opening credits for Executive Producers Peter Noah and Lawrence O'Donnell, Jr. are not in the same order in every episode: sometimes Peter is before Lawrence, sometimes Lawrence is before Peter.  Also I have not shown any credit for Aaron Sorkin, as he was only shown as "created by" and he didn't actually have anything to do with Season 7, and I'm uncomfortable about using an OMB or OCB credit for a series creator.

I had planned to do the crew credits for The West Wing but now it looks like I should verify the cast as well.  I am slowly working my way through (having started with Season 7 since that was the box handies to me) to capture the Crew data.  I don't know if the other seasons Chippy contributed are correctly credited or not, but based on the number of errors I found in Season 7, I have to question whether seasons 1 thru 6 are correct.

Forewarned is forearmed.  So if you have any/all of the seasons of The West Wing you might want to check the cast list -- if you have downloaded them from the main database.

I want to thank Chippyphillips for what he (she?) has done, since as some of the voters have said about his contributions, no one else has done them -- and they involve a lot of work.  I just wish those efforts had been a little more careful and accurate.

Well, you're certainly right to say that it's unfortunate to have to go and doublecheck, correct and basically redo everything after someone did a submission, but as Gerri told us a few weeks ago, this kind of behavior is allowed and accepted as a "partial contribution".

BTW, the work you're doing now is exactly why I (and others) were opposed to this approach on "partial contributions", but apparently people think it's less work to check someone else's credits submissions, complete them where necessary and upload the missing parts then to do them all by yourself with whatever tools you might want to use.

Maybe you could shed some light if it's actually faster (I think that you can hardly work with an XML export tool and / or use copy 'n' paste functions properly and as effectively as normally possible).

No, this is not a "partial contribution". A "partial contribution" would be just the main cast as shown in the opening credits, or something like that. This sounds like a "full contribution" of the cast that has lots of errors. The two are not the same.

We all would like to think that we never do a bad job entering the data, but as we have all seen, we all make errors. Some of us try harder than others, but you can't blame this on "partial contribution".

That's how I see it, too.  A "partial contribution" would be to submit only the principal cast, or to submit only the Director and Writers for the crew.  But I wouldn't agree that what I downloaded was "partial" because the contributor claimed to have "Added each episode per the DVD and the cast for each episode."  If I hadn't checked the thing myself, I would naively assumed that the cast was "complete" rather than "partial."  I think if someone IS going to submit a "partial contribution" he/she should say so in the notes.

@Darxon
I think it is easier to take the other guy's credits and edit them rather than do them from start.  But I'm doing it both ways.  I had started Season 2 some time ago and got sidetracked.  So I'm going to work on that next -- from scratch.  When I get back to using someone else's work as a start, I'll let you know which is easier.  One problem I see with using someone elses work as a starting point is that I might miss spelling errors.  Oh well, that's what makes life interesting.

Just for your information. I have completed West Wing seasons 1, 2, 3 and 7 (R2/locality Finland)

I used as a starting point information from www.westwingepguide.com. After that all cast and crew were verified against actual screen credits and possible errors were corrected.

EANs are:
- season 1: 7-321944-244637
- season 2: 7-321944-246174
- season 3: 7-321944-336493
- season 7: 7-321944-818883

I still have not find enough time to complete the other seasons.

Thanks, Jyldke.  I downloaded your contributions and will use your Season 1 data.  I had just about finished season 2 when I read your message, so I might as well complete the last disc -- then I'll check it against yours to see if I made any mistakes.  [BTW:  Renée Estevez is credited as Renee Esteves in her first appearance [ep. 12 'The Drop In'] but correctl as Renée Estevez in her second and subsequent appearances [ep. 15  'Ellie' so the Credited As name is only needed once].

I didn't see an episode cast/credit list for Season 3 -- maybe it's in the child profiles, but for some reason I can't locate them online (even when I select R2).  I could locate the R2 profiles fo Seasons 1,2,3, and 7, and all but S3 have the episodic breakout of cast/crew.

Sorry, my mistake. I forgot that I only started working on Season 3. Now I checked again, I found out that I'm only finished with episodes 1 to 3. It's still on my local database only.

No problem.

I just finished watching Season 2.  Boy, I should have watched it when it first aired back in the day!

Now I want to start with Season 3 to see how they explain the end of Season 2 and the next presidential campaign.

Renée Estevez is credited several times on season 1 as Renee (episodes 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 13, 14, 19 and 21). I remember that I was extra accurate with her credits. If you say that she is credited as Renée in episode 15 "Ellie" on season 2, then I should re-check that.

Edit: just re-checked. Renee it is in episode 15. See screen cap below.

Now I'll have to check the episode again.  I'd swear I saw it as Renée -- but it's hard to argue against a screen cap.  Thanks for the proof.  I was going to have to re-check my work anyway, since you seem to have caught a different spelling for Matt Gottlieb/Gottleib that I overlooked.  Maybe I'll have to start wearing glasses.

I wonder if she auditioned for one of Jed Bartlet's daughters?  That would have been an interesting bit of trivia.

If it is Renée in your version of ep. 2.15 then they have released West Wing here in R2 lands with different credits. I also re-check episode 2.01. Matt(hew Robert) Gottlieb is really credited as Matt Gottleib.

BTW: Sean Morgan [Sean Moran] as Dr. Holbrook is an error in ep. 2.01. It should be Sean Moran. It must have been an error in www.westwingepguide.com at the time I profiled this season. Without other proof I have trusted that information and added the credited as name. Now www.westwingepguide.com shows the name as it appears on screen.

I'm happy to know if you spot more possible errors in credited as names. (Credit Lookup Tool was not available when I made this profile.)

Well, I checked my copy and it is in fact Renée.  I took a screen cap and uploaded it to webshots, but I never tried to post it before and obviously don't know how to use it. Maybe if I post my options, someone can tell me how to get one of them to work in this forum.  I'm really a newby when it comes to posting images.

WebShots gives me three options:

Post in your blog or website:
<a href="http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2519237550101262280RBQkCT"><img src="http://thumb0.webshots.net/t/52/652/2/37/55/2519237550101262280RBQkCT_th.jpg" alt="reneeestevezcredit"></a>

Direct Link to image:

Post in a forum:

But I don't know how to get the image (or a link to the image) to appear here.

I guess there MUST be different credits for different regions, cause in my image the É is clear.

Maybe this link will show you what I captured:

You just need to make the image a bit bigger and your link at the bottom works fine.

How's this?

Thanks for the tip, nine. Now all I have to do is remember how I did this the next time it comes up.  [Note to me:  The link for the above is for a 600 pixel image.]

Looks great, and more proof that you can't assume that all credits are the same when copying credits from one region's profiles to another.
