I recently borrowed a friends complete collection of Miami Vice and found that the package sets were put in one case, everything for those individual sets are the same except season one. Season one initial release was on 3 discs, but for the complete series it was changed to 6 discs. Also, Universal did not changed the disc ID's for 3 of the discs.

So the question is:
should the first 3 discs whose ID's that are the same as the initial release be contributed or just the 3 disc that are not?

Very interesting, but the Com0plete Seris is a separate set from the Seasons, so all Disc ID should be listed for it. It looks to me like Season 2 should ALSO now be a 6-Disc Set. The complete Series according to DVDEmpire claims to be 27 Discs, yet Seasons 1-5 only add up to 21. With Seasons 1 &2 being 3 Discs each.

Skip,
Yep your right about season two, I just haven't gotten that far yet.

But the question still remains:
should the first 3 discs whose ID's that are the same as the initial release be re-contributed or just the 3 discs that are not?

Here's the explanation why, Rl

Universal Studios has announced this morning the release of Miami Vice - The Complete Series on DVD. It incorporates all 5 seasons of the show, previously released over the last two-and-a-half year period (has it been that long already?), into a single package that will be released on November 13th. The 27-DVD collection will come in a Faux Alligator-Skin Box which holds the five "digipak" sets together in one place.

Good news for folks who hate double-sided DVDs: while the first two season sets of Miami Vice were originally released on "flipper" discs in their individual sets, the season packs included in this collection will contain only single-sided DVDs! So instead of getting three double-sided discs for each of the first two seasons, you'll get six single-sided discs instead. That's how the disc count gets to "27". Nice!

From what we see of Universal's announcement this morning, there will be no other content that is new to this release. The only extras are the same five featurettes seen on the original Season 1 set.

Skip,
I see that it fixes the season 1 & 2 flipper issue, but for those of us who bought those season individually shouldn't the initial release contrubitions stand since the Didc ID's are the same and just contribute the other 3 discs that are not in the database, and of course the same can be said for season two.

It won't change the individual Seasons at all. There will simply be two separate listing for Miami vice Season one &2.

Skip,
But if 3 of the discs ID's are the same as the initial contribution discs won't they be overwritten with the information that is now split between 2 discs.
