Just noticed an accross the board No from Skip on a few of my scans from 3 of the Dirty Harry DVDs. I wanted to take a minute to address a few of his points. The white color is off because the scan was made with the broken glass slip cover on. That brings me to my second point, he says its badly cropped. Well, Warner had cropped a bit off when they made the covers. Just look at the temp art and you can see. Also, once again, the slip cover of "broken glass" made it nesassary to crop just a hair off the sides, so it would be a clean scan, and not show the DVD case under. But if its rejected, i understand. Just wanted you all to know what kind of DVD case i was working with.  Thanks for the input, i do appeciate it.

Which Dirty Harry.. The new Box set? /  BD set?  or the original discs from 8 years ago.. ??
Just wondering since I don't have the new ones ---  and the opening post is vague on this.

Yea, i could have, but i wanted to let anyone know who saw the covers know what they were. I guess the only way to do them is without the slip cove, but then you wouldnt have a broken glass effect. Oh well.

Well, you could have reported this without mentioning his name

But enough of that, this thread is not about the lack of a PM (something, BTW, Skip has done many times himself, so don't worry about being called on it too much )

If the Slip Cover isn't reflective and allows scanning, it should be used. If Skip was the only No vote, then you don't have to worry too much... (although, I am aware of the "snowball effect" a negative vote can have).

There is a lot of things Ricker COULD have done, he chose the worst of them. His images, frankly, are some of the absolute worst I have seen. Since he chose this one, I won't even mentiuon something that might have been suggested with a different approach. I can only say that he has a lot to learn about scanning.

Oh i agree, i have a few things to learn. Feel free to tell me what i could do to make them better. Thats why i posted in the CONTRIBUTION DISCUSSION, to tell you how i did it, and find out how to make it better. I dont know of a way to respond other than a PM, but that doesnt get a discussion going. Why dont you put up some scans of these. These have been out for 3 weeks, and no one has done them. I did it for myself, until something better came along.

BTW, i really do want to make better scans. I am not trying to be an ass, and as you can see i am something of a newb. I assume we are all a bit OCD, that why we catalog our DVDs and Blu-rays.

Just an edit to say a thanks to Skip. He does damn good work.
And trust me, id rather someone that knows what the hell he/she is doing take care of things for me. So i dont have to make even temp scans for myself. I learned my scanner is not up to the task, but i did take notes!

I wouldn't go so far as to say your scanner is not up tothe task, Ricker. After all, it was your scanned image that I cleaned up.  As I told you privately, be patient, experience is the best teacher and it takes lots and lots of practice, I am still learning and finding ways to improve my own work. Remember, you know how to get me.

As to whomever decided that there was worthy rep vote cast here, i would suggest you might inquire of Ricker what he thinks about that.

Allow me to move slightly of topic here: I agree that it is generally better to not mention names, but when Skip is involved, I honestly think it's okay!

While i may not agree with Skip on many things, I do know that he follows the rules to the letter when submitting and voting for updates and would never let personal grudges interfere with how he votes! Because of this, a no-vote from Skip bears more weight than it would from just about any other user in here! Well, at least in my mind.

I MAY agree with some of what you say, but what benefit is gained by mentioning any name. When I feel the need I try to keep names out of it, now generally the user will get upset and out himself.

I think Ricker now sees what i was referring to. I asked him to send me one his uncropped raw images, which he did. I them paled with it a bit and worked a little bit of the magic experience brings and...well let's say the end result looked very nice.

Skip did great work on the scan i sent him. let me ask you guys a question, these DVDs have been out for 3 weeks now. I had not seen anything up for evaluation. Would you like to see newbies try and give it a shot until something better comes along, or would you rather them not work on it. Now let me add, i hate when people add wrong information to a profile, wrong cast, wrong production years, and so on. So, because of that, at the last minute i decided not to add any profile info, and just submit my scans. But a crappy cover scan is pretty easy for someone to see, and fix, when they get time. And i thought mine was better than nothing. Or better than the same temp art used for the front, and back.

What do you guys think?
Thanks again Skip for your feedback, and help.

Maybe the usual cast of characters who would contribute these titles did what I did and bought the Ultimate Collector's Edition -- which has all the Dirty Harry discs but doesn't have the individual release cover art since it's packaged differently -- and doesn't include UPCs for the discs.  You can't scan what you don't have.
