I heard about that before. I really don't see how they wanna get more out of DVD Content that a good upscaling DVD Player already can. They should rather produce one HD-DVD Player so that the hundreds of thousands of people who still own HD-DVD's can buy something if their player breaks.
Also this technology is supposed to cost about $150. You can get a good Blu Ray Player for about $250. And in the US the prices for regular DVD's and Blu Rays are already pretty darn close.

You know I keep reading where people claim how close Blu-Rays are priced to DVDs, but yet I have yet to find this anywhere!!! On release day at my local Best Buy, I can get a DVD on sale for $16.99, most of the time, but they never cost more than $19.99, yet the same movie released on Blu-Ray seem to be $29.99!!!
Also please list this good Blu-Ray players that you can get for under $250??? So far, from everything I have read, the PS3 is still the player to get, which boggles my mind that 3 years into Blu-Ray the Sony video game console remains the Best Blu-Ray player anyone can get under $499!!! The Samsung BD-P 1500, which is a great piece of hardware. Costs $320 at amazon.com And top movies like Rambo ($22,95) Batman Begins (17,95)..Or even the highly anticipated "Transformers" (which I have on HD-DVD) costs only 24,95. Or National Treasure 1&2 for 39.98.. The list is endless.. And you could never reach that quality with some sort of upscaling technique.. Also the Audio on a HD Disc will always be superior.. The only decent one I see is the Panasonic DMp-BD50, but it is more than I am willing to spend on a Blu-Ray player right now!!!
Perhaps I am in the minority here, but I am not filthy rich, not even rich for that matter. $10 more for each movie just so I can watch in HD quality might seem logically sound, but it isn't fiscally sane for me!!! While I am a huge supporter of HD quality movies and HD audio, I am still within the upscaling DVD crowd at the moment (though I do own 2 HD-DVD players and about 30 HD-DVDs).
If Sony suddenly releases a PS3 console with 5.1 analog out or better, I would jump on it immediately. I am patient and I can wait for the Blu-Ray discs to come down in price or buy them during the occassional sales. The PS3 still remains the best value Blu-Ray player on the market, it just doesn't work with my current AV set-up!!! | | | | My Collection!!! |

There are still some sites around where you can pick up movie bargains. I have over 150 HD-DVD and I still keep buying them. But as for Blu Ray, sadly it's the future. Why not buy the player and pay in installments? That's how I got my Samsung 1080p tv. I pay about $100 each month for a year and then it's mine. And that's worth it. In no way am I saying I am against Blu-Ray, I just am not impressed with the current stand-alones in terms of value vs. quality!!! The PS3, a gaming console, still remains the best valued Blu-Ray player on the market, and from what i can tell it can do anything any other player on the market can do, except it lacks multichannel analog outputs!!!
Most likely a Blu-Ray player (PS3) will be on my christmas wishlist, it is how I got my HD-DVD player last year. If I get one as a gift, it will be my BD player until I find a machine that will be the best upgrade and I can find!!! | | | | My Collection!!! |

When it's bitstreamed the Player just sends the signal to the receiver and the receiver decodes it. The advantage of that is that on the display of the receiver you see stuff like "Dolby True HD" or "DTS HD Master". In case of the PS3 you will always just see "Multichannel"..
For some people, including me, that's reason enough to buy a Blu Ray Player that can bitstream the audio because it's very cool to read "True HD" on your Receiver Display.
Aside from that the PS3 is still one of the best Blu Ray Players around. I just read an article in a magazine today about the new players that arrive this and next month. There are still many I could buy, but I either have them on DVD or I'm not really that interested in the movie. There are dozens of exciting titles that really benefit from HiDef, but many others that I could care less if I ever watch, let alone own in HD or Blu-ray |
