| Posted: | | | | I initially installed the DVD Profile software on my laptop computer since it was in the room where my DVDs were kept. I finished inputting everything and decided I wanted to run a report. My laptop is on a wireless connection so I don't have access to the printer which is connected to my desktop computer.
I installed the profile software on the desktop and put in the registration key to have full access. When I clicked the test internet connection, it was having a hard time finding the internet connection. I have a wireless router setup with my cable internet connection. The network cable for the modem goes from the modem to the router and the network cable for the router is going from the router to the computer. The internet connection test on the laptop took maybe less than 30 seconds to complete. The desktop computer it seems just won't work right. I have firewall software, but it isn't running. I had Spybot running, but I exited from that and still no luck with getting the internet connection test completed.
Can anyone help me out? |

I've just opened the program and have gone to the DVD menu and selected add to collection -- nothing happens when I do this except for an hour glass. I have to end the program through task manager because at some point while the program is open, it tries to connect and obviously the connection isn't working and the cancel button won't cancel the process. Do I have to go into my router and open a port for DVD profiler?
Edit: I found the alternate connection method, but that doesn't work either. I'd really like some help in getting this setup so that I can access the online features. The connection to the Internet works just fine outside of DVD Profiler, so I don't understand why it won't work within the application. | | | Last edited: by cb2367 |

| Posted: | | | | Perhaps you are on a network were you can only go to the internet via a proxy server.
Check the settings of internet explorer
Tools --> internet options --> connections --> lan settings
duplicate the settings for proxy server in the part below the alternate connection method. Make sure use alternate connection method is also selected for going through a proxy. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

| Posted: | | | | I've checked the LAN settings in Internet Explorer, and there is nothing entered. I still don't understand why every aspect of the program works on my laptop, but I can't get connected to the database.
Yesterday evening, I successfully performed the connection test without using the alternate connection method. When I tried again today, it wouldn't connect. When I go to the option to add to my collection, there is a long delay where nothing happens and I have an hourglass icon on the screen. After several minutes, a dialog box opens stating "connecting to Invelos software." The dialog box indicates it is trying to connect to 127.0.0.0. After yet several more minutes, it then tries to connect to 74.53.166.114 and it won't connect. In order to add anything to my collection, I have to have the online profile list downloaded. This list won't download. I ran a tracert several times and found that the second hop of the route between my ISP (comcast) and Invelos timed out. I contacted my ISP about this and they only offered generic help as far as delete browsing history, cookies, and cache. They suggested that the the site was just very slow or undergoing maitenance.
So, I have the program running just fine and can add DVD titles to my collection and can download the profile list. I cannot do this on my desktop. The firewall software is turned off and I can't think of anything else that is blocking Invelos from connecting. |

| Posted: | | | | You could check in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc
verify the file called hosts - see if there is anything listed for www.invelos.com. If it is, remove it.
Other than that, the only suggestion I can make, is to check which proxyserver your ISP is using, and enter it in DVDprofiler. This way, the proxyserver will make the DNS call on your behalf. Maybe that will work. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm
