I am ignorent when it comes to programming.  I used the examples that were posted in download page.  My goal is to take my dvd's and convert them to .avi's and have them stored on my pc.  Then through DVDpro have them play on my TV.  When I click the movie button on the menu bar I get the error "can't open / play!" but the movie starts to play.  I know this is below your level of programming but any help I can get, I would be greatful.  Here is an example of the string Im using;

[filepath]k:\Soldier.avi[/filepath]

If I did not explain this well enough, please let me know.  As I said Im ignorent on this stuff.

It may be a bug. What you are doing appears to be correct - I assume you have the word "file" in the Location field.

Without all the boring details, what is happening is that LoadDVD tries one of 3 or 4 ways to make the file play, in sequence. If one way fails, the next one is tried, etc. Apparently, the error message from one of the failed attempts is being displayed instead of suppressing it before moving on. Sorry for the inconvenience.

You might try messing with your file associations to see what effect that has. The problem may magically get resolved.

Your explanation was just fine, by the way.

I basically have the same problem.  In my case it happens only on my XP machine when accessing files off of a shared drive on my media server running Vista 64.  It works just fine when doing the same thing from a Vista 32 machine.

It's not that big of a deal for me as I rarely use the XP machine but I thought I'd let you know that it's not an isolated case and some additional info might be useful.

By the way, 1.60 is still working flawlessly except for this one minor glitch.

Thanks again,
Dave

Thanks for the feedback.

The previous author never confirmed whether my suggestion helped. I know of no reason that the program would have a "glitch" related to where the data is stored. The problem is more likely due to confusion with file associations and remote file access permissions in your network setup. I use the sceanrio you described,  all the time. All my machines are in the same workgroup, with at least one user in common among all the machines. I set up my shares to be available to all users in the workgroup, and have no trouble accessing data back and forth from XP and Vista(32/64). I also have two Windows Home Servers.

You're probably right that its something in my configuration.  Maybe one of these days I'll actually try and fix it.

Isn't that supposed to be my line?
