| | Posted: | | | | Didn't know if it should be in here or in the wish list section; But having trawled through a few of the sub forums already, I figured I'd just try this one and if its wrong maybe a nice mod would move it to the right spot. Firstly, I'm *LOVING* this program. I can't believe I've lasted so long without it in my life! So, my my suggestions: 1) Has anyone done a Windows gadjet for searching their DB? I've been looking at the Database query plugin, but what I'm looking for something detached from the main program. I run Profiler on my windows home server, so having something like a gadjet to trawl through my collection (without making any accidental edits!) would be a dream. 2) Probably wandering off into impossibilities but.... Would it be possible to do a "my collection is worth" plugin; However, instead of basing it on the entered SRP price, querying somewhere like Amazon? thats it for now - I'm sure I've lots more forum reading to do, so be gentle on me if I've already posted ideas that've be done to death!  |

| | Posted: | | | | (1) For the first one, check out the signature of DJ Doena. I believe that he already has a toolkit that allows you to create a MS Access version of the database (using the exported XML). And there is a plugin that automatically keeps the exported XML file up-to-date.
(2) I agree that the second one is way too specialized for anybody to jump on a plugin, but we could brainstorm on ways that you could automate your own script to get close, again using the exported XML, or creating a script that works in conjunction with the DVDProfileLoop plugin.
Basically DVDProfileLoop blasts through the set of profiles you specify, calling your script and passing you selected info from the database, such as the UPC or whatever you select. Then it is up to your script to do something, such as make an HTML query to Amazon to get the price and do the totals, or perhaps create a file that you can load into Excel.
Also, see the signature of Mithi for a toolkit that allows you to write scripts directly on the XML, from an HTML page. That might be ideal, if you have some scripting capabilities yourself. Sounds like fun. Good luck! | | | Thanks for your support.

I'll also hold my hand up and admit that the whole developing thing is beyond me - However, I've a good friend who understands all this stuff, so I normally fire my ideas at him! He seems to think number two isn't so tricky - Apparently amazon have an queriable API available to pull the info out and then its just injecting it into the DB. Simple apparently  Concepts always are I guess!!  |

Amazon uses ASINs as identifier: Amazon Standard Identification Number, e.g. B001M5UDGS that has noting to do with the actual UPC 883629-697581. And then there would be the problem of matching DVDP locality with Amazon domain (There's not just the US you know  ) | | | Karsten
