Any idea on why this error would pop on when trying to import an XML file that was just exported?

Serious error processing XML: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Of course it is my intention to be able to import anything that was exported using the official export process.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that you have manually edited the XML after Profiler export.

Yes, I am referring to BulkEdit.  I'm using DVDProfiler v3.5.1 Build 1252.

In trying to troubleshoot I deleted some recently added records and BulkEdit seemed to start working again.

Another issue I have noted is that only one Cast Member <Actors> get reimported and the Role and Credited As are not imported at all.

Interesting. Two points:
(1) If you added records (I assume you mean profiles) in a santioned way (e.g through the Profiler GUI), exported those records and BulkEdit fails - that is a bug. You may have worked around it, but I have little chance of fixing that bug unless I see the data associated with it.

(2) I'm not sure about the partial Cast/Credit import. I know that it was not a priority, since all that data is overwritten anyway during a Profiler refresh. BulkEdit explicity states that is not intended as a replacement for Profiler download of accepted contributions. BulkEdit is mainly a way to get your personal data preserved when creating a bunch of new records, migrating from a some other database, or as one of several last ditch recovery methods when the officially santioned methods are not available for whatever reason.

So, I probably won't spend a lot of time fixing Cast/Crew import. You are expected to refresh all imported profiles directly from Invelos in order to get valid profile data. I guess the exception would be manual profiles. If you are creating manual profiles, I should be importing everything. If that is not working, let me know.

By the way, I am sure you know that there are a couple of powerful Cast/Crew editors. That is the other main reason that BulkEdit does not focus on it. I did provide a way to quickly invoke your favorite editor from the BulkEdit GUI, just for convenience. See the options panel.

I made these decisions a long time ago. If you have some perspectives on why I should consider changing, go ahead and share them for consideration.

I am creating manual records from a wine cellar application so I would not be refreshing any data.  I was hoping to use the cast/crew section to populate wine ratings.  I liked the ability to include photos with each.

I would like to send you a small test file as the error has popped up again.

Very interesting project. I will look into making a more complete import for manual profiles. I assume that is what you are using, right? Or are you using non-DVD UPCs?

And I PM'd you with an email address of where to send sample XML file(s) that are causing errors.

If not, can you tell me how you caused Profiler to create null UPCs and UPCs that don't match the ProfileID?

(I mistakenly edited a prior post with this comment - it should have been a new post).

Ok, I verified that your backup database loads correcty into Profiler, as expected. And when I exported XML from that, I did get an error on re-import. That is a bug that I will fix.

However, the XML you sent me does not conform to the Profiler XML format, and it is different in the ways that I mentioned from the officially exported XML. I will not attempt to fix bugs associated with processing unsupported XML formats. That is just way too much work. Sorry. (Although I think the way the code is written, as long as there is a ProfileID and/or UPC, subsets of correctly formatted XML will probably import OK).

I will release an update to BulkEdit when I fix the valid bug that you found.
