Nice new feature in the new DVD Profile

Remote database access

Work very nice,

except that, the programm needs to be running on the server computer to be accessible by the client computer.

Is the anyway to run DVD profile in background of even as windows service.

What charateristic are you looking for that you wouldn't get by simply minimizing DVDP? (Other than suppressingits icon in the task tray?) I have been thinking about the same thing, and came to the conclusion there was no benefit to running as a service. What did I miss?

You can run it without have a user logged-in.

I see. Thanks. I have to think about that. Personally, I don't think I would mind. I have a special unused user on my machines anyway that was needed for some reason, pre-Vista to enable seamless sharing in the WorkGroup. I could use that one. Anyway, that's me - I understand your point. Seems like it would be useful.

You can share the database directory on the server with Microsoft network sharing.  You have to switch back and forth depending on the server running Profiler.  You will not be able access the network shared collection when Profiler is running on the server. This is pretty sloppy programiing.

When you have a server you do not stay logged on.  This sort of defeats any security that is setup.

I do not want to have to stay logged on to my server and run DVD profiler to access the database.  DVD profiler is just one program I use and I do not want to waste my system resources by leaving it running all the time.  DVD profiler is a fine program that is well written, however it is by far not the most important program on my system.

Work very nice,

What exactly do I need to do to make this work?  I have a computer upstairs, running DVD profiler. I've set the "Share my collection on the network" on, and selected "My network (subnet) only".

I have a laptop downstairs, and I want to see/use my DVD collection there.  What do I need to do on the laptop?
