| Posted: | | | | i dont contribute as much as others but lately i get more "Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were non-specific. Please specify the exact source for your changes. (e.g. "Credits from film end credit list", "Previous version UPC#1111111111")" this has only been for titles not in database. this is what i wrote for my last contribution "new contribution. all cast and crew info comes from actaul dvd in hand. found release date from amazon.com. audio, subtitles, rating, studio, and media company as well as runtime and region code from back cover. thanks " i dont understand that now the contribution is declined when before it seemed this was enough info for a contribution.(yes i did spell ACTUAL wrong!) im sure i have made mistakes just was wondering what i did wrong? thanks |

| Posted: | | | | Why are you taking runtime, audio and subtitles from the case when you have gone through the effort of getting the credits/disc id from the disc? |

| Posted: | | | | That could be the problem... on info that we have to take from the web it is normally preferred to have 2 or 3 sites that agree on the info you are providing. I don't do that info that often... so I forgot about that. | | | Pete |

Even finding three or more websites which list the same release date doesn't guarantee accuracy. I've found myself in the same situation in the past and know how frustrating it can be. The problem with Amazon is that they don't list the UPC number for any of their media items; just ASIN. I've seen cases where a studio re-releases a DVD or BD using the same UPC as before and some of the web sites update the release date to reflect the newer release. Even if Amazon currently has multiple listings for a specific title (e.g. Chicken Little BD and upcoming Chicken Little BD/DVD Combo) once a title is discontinued Amazon usually removes or doesn't show that title. I'm sure the same will happen to the Chicken Little BD example next year. For me, DVDEmpire.com has been a better site for a first glance at release dates. They seem to retain discontinued listings, for the most part, in their database as long as each release is given a new UPC; there are a few holes however, as an example my 2-disc Bug's Life CE DVD which was released on 11/23/2009 (7-17951-00402-4) isn't listed on their site. However, DVDEmpire has the same problem as Amazon with releases that use the same UPC as previous releases. Therfore, in these cases the above doesn't hold true. The same goes for dvdlist.kazart.com on some occasions. For example, the Sleepy Hollow Blu-ray was first released on 9/26/2006 with cover art that had the standard, at that time, silver Paramount High Definition border. Several years later Paramount did away with that border and released those titles w/o the border but retained the same UPC as before. If you search for this title on Amazon they list a 6/3/2008 release date, DVDEmpire lists a 5/20/2008 release date, and Kazart lists the original 9/26/2006 release date. I usually try to find old press releases and/or news articles to supplement other references that list a release date. However, this can be extremely difficult especially for titles which were released in the late 1990s. In some instances, DVDProfiler listed a specific release date for a given title yet I know I purchased that title ~2 years prior to the listed release date. So, I know the title was released prior to the date stored in DVDProfiler but the original release date could be prior to my purchase date if it wasn't purchased on the release date. However, sometimes I haven't been able to find multiple sources that will agree on an original release date. Thus in a few cases I end up not submitting an update for the release date since I can't prove what the original release date was. |

I love Amazon and i have used DVDEmpire as well. However this particular intstance the dvd just came out this year(last month i think)when i resubmitted i still included the amazon reference just really was being more of a smartass and listed EVERY thing ( i opened dvd case, inserted dvd...things like that) and it was approved in an instant. Weird!! |

| Posted: | | | | I cite Amazon all the time for SRP & release dates and have never seen a rejection for titles not in the database.
I think the decline is from this phrase in your notes "all cast and crew info comes from actaul dvd in hand"
Since I'm certain you meant that you took the cast & crew from the credits, always specifically use the words "film credits" or "episode credits". I am certain that's what the screeners are looking for. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield | | | Last edited: by Danae Cassandra |

And to show the UPC/EAN on the product details pages, you can use a Greasemonkey script: Amazon barcode. Thanks Muckl, that's good to know. As with any source, none are completely accurate. |
